Abstract

244,479. Reed, W. S. Dec. 10, 1924, [Convention date]. Couplings, disconnectible; spigot-and-socket screwed joints.-In a hose coupling of the type described in Specification 24215/08 wherein the male member comprises a screwed spigot and the female member 1 is provided with swinging jaws 5, each having screw threads formed on its face 6, the jaws 5 are mounted within slots 4 in the member 1 by means of two trunnions 12, integral therewith, which rest in a groove 8 formed in the end of the member 1 and are held in position by the flange 10 of the usual thrust ring 9 which also relieves the pivot pins 12 of any longitudinal thrust. Each jaw 5 is acted upon by a spring 7,. which tends to swing it inwardly, and is also so constructed that the end 11 thereof bears against the said flange 10. The two members are coupled by inserting the male member into the member 1, and during the movement the jaws 5 are forced back against the action of the springs 7, and when the members are completely coupled the toother faces 6 of the jaws engage the threads of the male member. Separation is effected by unscrewing the two members.
