Abstract

244,158. Reed, S. A. Sept. 9, 1924. Screw propellers.-In a two-bladed screwpropeller 3, 4 the blade part is separable from the hub and is given a continuous twist from the tip of one blade to the tip of the other. The propeller is convex on one side of one blade and convex on the other side of the other blade. The central hub 12 is formed with inclined slots designed to accommodate the central parts of the blade. The propeller is further secured in place by a central metal strap 19 bolted to the hub 12 which is itself bolted to a flange 2 on the propeller shaft 1. In a modification, the central part of the propeller is slotted at 10 and 11, Fig. 4, and the straps so formed are pressed upwards and downwards to form a central orifice through which the hub 4 is thrust, the hub being formed with oppositely-disposed fins 5 which contact with the straps and are bolted thereto.
