Electric hand - irons are provided with a thermal switch 27 which, when the iron reaches a predetermined temperature closes contacts 25, 26 in a shunt circuit to the electromagnet of an automatic circuit-breaker which then operates to open the heating circuit of the iron as well as the circuit to the electromagnet.
