Regenerators.-In apparatus for effecting the transfer of heat between fluids such as air for combustion and waste furnace gases in which heat transmitting material provided with channels ending at opposite ends of the material and the inlet and outlet channels for the fluid giving up heat and that absorbing heat have a relative rotary motion, the ratio between the portion of the heat-transmitting material exposed to the fluid giving off heat to that portion passed by the fluid absorbing heat is always constant and greater than unity. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the regenerative heat-transmitting material is arranged in a rotary frame 1 and the channels for the two fluids are formed by partitions 10, 11 so arranged that a smaller portion 12 of the heattransmiting material is exposed to the cold fluid than the portion 13 exposed to the hot fluid. Fans 5, 6 are provided to force the fluids through the apparatus. The partitions may be arranged as shown at 17, Fig. 3, or 18, 19, Fig. 4. Packing strips may be bolted to the partition to slide in contact with the regenerative material.
