Abstract

243,640. Blight, R. R. July 2, 1925. Pulping-engines. - In beating and hydrating apparatus for paper stock, suitable for treating fibres of wood, grass, straw, and the like, but unsuitable for rags, ropes, and similar fibres, the stock is pumped to rotating nozzles 15 and impinges against blades 16 preferably set at an angle of about 30‹ to their radii. The stock is supplied by a pipe 1 to a compartment 2, and is pumped by a pump 7 to the nozzles. Bearings 13, 26 are provided for the rotating nozzles and a stuffing box 12 for the junction of the pipe 5 with the nozzles. An observation pocket 24 is provided in the compartment 2 and a manhole for cleaning the upper compartment 6. Both sides of the blades 16 communicate with the compartment 2. The stock when sufficiently treated is discharged at 8.
