Abstract
243,532. Lees, A. M. Dec. 6, 1924. Channels and reservoirs in Bowden-wire mechanism.-Means for lubricating Bowden-wire cables comprises a member having a hole to accommodate the cable and capable of being permanently deformed to cause it to grip the cable, a hole being made in the cable sheath and a few coils of the casing being separated to allow lubricant supplied through channels in the member to the hole to pass to the wire. As shown in Fig. 3, wherein the member 1 accommodates two cables in holes 2, a slot 3 extends from each hole to the outside of the member, the sides of the slots being hammered over to grip the cable. The slots may be finally closed by solder. Lubricant chambers 7 communicate with the holes. In the form shown in Fig. 5, for four cables, slots 3 extend between the holes 2, to which lubricant is supplied from a nipple 5 through channels 9. The sides of the slots are hammered in to grip the cables. As shown in Fig. 7, the member is in two parts, a part 1 provided with depressions 13 to which lubricant is supplied through a channel 9, and a thin plate 15 secured to the part 1 by screws 14. The cables are placed in the depressions 13 and the plate 15 is deformed as shown. A construction suitable for applying to the end of a cable as shown in Fig. 9, comprising a tubular member with a large slotted end 16 accommodating the sheath and a smaller end 17 accommodating the casing, the smaller end having a hole 18 for the passage of the wire. Lubricant is supplied through a hole 19. Two members similar to that shown in Fig. 9, but open at both ends, may be screwed into a connecting member 21, Fig. 10, carrying a lubricant nipple or cup 5. The invention may be applied to the lubricating means described in Specification 235,406.
