Abstract

243,533. Lees, A. M. Dec. 6, 1924. Channels and reservoirs in Bowden-wire mechanism.-Means for lubricating Bowden-wire cables comprises a member 1, Figs. 1, 2, having an inclined lower wall, and members 2, 3, having opposing grooved surfaces forming a hole 4 accommodating a cable, the lower face of the member 2 being inclined, so that, on driving the members 2, 3 into the member 1, the cable is gripped. Lubricant is supplied to the hole 4 from a nipple 7, a hole being made in the cable sheath and a few coils of the casing being separated to allow the lubricant to reach the wire. The member 2 may be secured in position by a screw or by bending over an extension 8 on the members 1 or 2. The upper member 3 may be permanently secured in the member 1. Instead of making the lower face of the member 2 inclined, a separate wedge member may be arranged below the member. One or more grooved separators may be arranged between the members 2, 3 so as to make provision for a number of cables. As shown in Fig. 3, the cable is gripped between the grooved face of a member 9 and the lower curved wall of the member 1, the upper surface of the member 9 being inclined to coact with the inclined top wall of the container. Fig. 14 shows a construction wherein tapered collars 15 are forced on to the tapered ends of members 2, 3 to grip a cable between the latter. Alternatively, these members 2, 3 may be made as a single slotted member. In the form shown in Fig. 15, the member 1 has parallel top and bottom faces and converging side walls of semi-circular form, the cables being wedged between the side walls and a wedgeshaped member 16. In the construction shown in Fig. 19, a pair of tubular members 18 are screwed into a connecting member 19 carrying a lubricant nipple 7, the outer ends 20 of the members 18 having tapered holes to accommodate conicaL members 21 within which the cable is gripped. Specification 235,406 is referred to.
