TERMINAL FOR ELECTRIC AND WIRELESS CONNECTIONS.
Application filed November 29, 1924, Serial No. 752,959, and in Great Britain July 11, 1924.
The object of this invention is to construct a terminal of the spring clip type, principally for use as a telephone terminal in connection with wireless apparatus and in which the plugs are formed from a small round rod whereby a speedy and easy connection can be made and an easy release ensured, the plug 01' plugs being inserted at the top and withdrawn from the end, no screws being re- 1 quired to connect the plug to the terminal and further I obtain the spring clip on the plug from four points thereby ensuing a proper grip under any conditions.
According to my invention I construct the terminal from a base having an eye by which it can be connected to an instrument or its frame and from the base extends two walls side by side such walls from the top edge being bent inwards and then downwards next to each other one or both of such downward portions being provided with grooved, recessed or corrugated portions which when formed on both downwardly bent portions coincide and in same cases I may also provide a groove in one of the downwardly bent portions in line with the bottom of the other member and then bend or curve the end of such member under the other member to form a stop.
I may use the clip alone or in conjunction with a cover or holder and in such a case I may also employ blocks which can be acted upon by the corrugated members to normally press them together the blocks having chamfered meeting edges to form the grooves for engaging the plug.
In applying the plug such plug is pressed down between the two downwardly turned members from the top until it engages with a groove or grooves when the spring of the appliance will firmly hold it in position but it can be easily withdrawn by pulling it end on, and when a groove is formed at the bottom this can be employed for receiving an additional plug which may be of larger diameter and will not interfere with the grip on the other plug.
By this construction of terminal should the operator when wearing the ear phones to which the plugs are attached by the lead wires, move his head so as to pull on the plugs they are easily released and no hurt is occasioned to the operator or his ear hones connection as would be the case when e pulls on a screw terminal, and neither does the wireless apparatus suffer any damage and the easy release of the plug prevents it being drawn down onto the floor and in the case of crystal sets the catswisker will not require readjusting as there is no jerk or ar.
My invention will be more clearly understood from the following description aided by the annexed drawings which illustrate several examples of carrying my invention into effect. 6
Figs. 1, 2 and 3 are, respectively, an end elevation, side elevation, and plan view of a terminal embodying the features of the invention and showing downwardly turned members extending beyond the grooved or channeled portion thereof, one member be ing provided with a lip to act as a stop.
Fig. 4 is an end view of a modified form of the clip, showing a terminal with the downwardlyturned members each provided with two grooves or channels and the lower end of one member formed with an additional groove and lip.
Fig. 5 is an end elevation of a further modification, showing a terminal in which the downwardly turned member carrying the lip is provided with two grooves.
Fig. 6 is an end elevation. of a further modification, showing a terminal in which the downwardly turned member with the lip is provided with a groove or channel and the member having the lip provided with one groove, the grooves being out of coincidence.
Fig. 7 is a longitudinal section through the center of a further modified form of the clip, showing a flat portion of one of the downwardly turned members having a hole or recess to provide a more resilient effect with relation to such member.

According to Figures 1 to 8 I construct the terminal from a base A having a hole B for engagement of a screw by which it can be secured to the wireless instrument or frame and also with a hole C through which a tack or brad is passed into the instrument or frame to prevent the terminal being revolved about its screw and from the base A at a portion thereof I form two walls I), E these extending to the desired height and from the top of the walls I form downturned members F, G these being positioned between the Walls D, E.
According to Figures 1, 2 and the members F, G are extended below the grooves H, I and the end of one member D is provided with additional groove a and also an inturned lip J which coversthe end of the other member E and acts as a stop to the plug K which is shown in position in Figure 8.
At Figure -l I show the two members F, G with two sets of groovesor channels H, I, L, M and also the groove 11 and lip J.
At Figure 5 I show the grooves H, a and Ii 3 J on the member F only, whilst at Figure 9 I show the groove 1 in member G and the groove a and lip J on the member F. In Figures 5 and 6 the grip on the plug will be by a groove in one member and the plain surface of the other member.
At Figure 7 is shown one recess N and at Figure 8 two recesses N, P formed in the flat part of the member F, but such recesses may be in both members the-object of the recessed portions being, to give the lower end of the member more spring effect and so enable a larger diameter plug being used 25 in the lower grooves thmi is used in the other grooves at the same time without seriously interfering with the grip on the smaller plug.
lVhat 1 do claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1- A spring clip terminal made from a single that strip of resilient metal and formed into an attaching base, twouprights having a spring tension toward each other, and two depending ends substantially parallel and between the uprights, said ends having; a contacting tension, said ends being further provided with plug-receiving portions and one being provided with a terminal lip extending below the terminal of the other end and acting as a stop to prevent the accidental passing of a terminal plug beyond the point of contact between the ends.
