Abstract
243,471. Marks, E. C. R., (Hart Manufacturing Co.). Sept. 9, 1924. Switches, quick-action; handles. - In order that switch handles made of porcelain or like material shall indicate accurately the " off," " on," and other positions of a switch, a projection 14 fixed to the switch spindle 12, instead of engaging the handle 15 directly fits closely in a notch in a plate 40 which has a lug 41 engaging a notch 43 in the handle. The lug 41 is some distance from the axis 12 so that the bad effect of the necessarily loose fit between the lug 41 and the porcelain handle is largely eliminated. The spindle 12 is screwed into a sleeve 23 which is inserted into a hole in the handle and held in place by a collar 25 which is slipped over the sleeve and itself held in place by a split ring 26, a spring 24 being interposed between the collar 25 and the end of the sleeve 23. On top of the collar 25 are placed the plate 40 and another plate 31 both plates being retained in place by the overturned ends 34 of the collar 25. The lug 14 may engage any one of three holes 30, 30, 30 in the handle. Corresponding holes are provided in the plate 40 to allow the passage of the lug, but the plate 31 has only one such hole 32 and serves to cover up the holes 30, 30 so that the handle will aways be set in the same position. Other plates to be used in place of the plate 31, are provided with the hole 32 in a position corresponding to the holes 30 or 30. The invention is shown applied to a quick-action switch, rotation of the handle, and therefore of the spindle 12, serving to stress a spring 18 and eventually actuate a, contact-carrying member 17 loosely mounted on the spindle.
