A shaft A having screwthreaded and plain portions a, b respectively passes loosely through a plate P which carries a cam lever l for gripping one end of the band. The other end of the band is clamped by a cam lever l<1> carried by a gripper plate P<1> integral with the securing means S. The plate P carries a rod T that slides through an aperture in the securing means, and this plate is moved towards the securing means by a nut-like handle V or by a pawl and ratchet lever L. After the band has been strained it is secured by manipulation of a cam lever E.
