Abstract

A device for parking cycles comprises a first layer with cycle holders 3 and a second layer with cycle holders 6 lying above the first layer, wherein at least each of the cycle holders of the second layer is separately tiltable between a parked position and a loading and offloading position by a gas spring, wherein the pivot point 9 of a cycle holder 6 of the second layer is arranged substantially at the level of the first layer.

Description

CYCLE RACE
The invention relates to a device for parking cycles, which device comprises a first layer with cycle holders and a second layer with cycle holders lying above the first layer, wherein at least each of the cycle holders of the second layer is separately tiltable between a parked position and a loading and offloading position.
Such a cycle rack is known for instance from DE-1J- 203 08 087. In this cycle rack the cycle holders of the second layer must be pulled out, whereafter the cycle holder can be tilted downward. The pivot point of the cycle holder is situated at the level of the second layer. The consequence hereof is that when a cycle is placed on the cycle holder of the second layer, a very large part of the weight of the cycle must be lifted upward, ithereafter the holder must moreover be pushed in. This latter operation certainly requires much energy since the sliding-in forces must be exerted above the head. This is not user-friendly, whereby it is found that in such known cycle racks the upper layer is little used.
It is now an object of the invention to provide a cycle rack wherein the above stated drawbacks are alleviated or even obviated.
This object is achieved with a device for parking cycles according to the preaie, which is characterized in that the pivot point of a cycle holder of the second layer is arranged Substantially at the level of the first layer.
It hereby becomes possible to have a cycle holder of the SeCOnd layer follow a path such that it can be set into a movement between a parked position and a loading and of f loading position.
In a preferred embodiment of the device according to the invention the pivot point of a cycle holder of the second layer is arranged in a vertical plane, this plane lying transversely of the longitudinal direction of the cycle holder and, in parked position, behind the centre of the cycle holder. The cycle holder will hereby remain automatically in the parked position because the centre of gravity lies in front of the pivot point. When the user now pulls on the cycle holder, the centre of gravity is displaced to a position behind the pivot point, whereby the cycle holder displaces automatically to the loading and offloadirig position. Little force is hereby required to carry a cycle holder, including cycle, from the one position to the other.
Another embodiment of the device according to the inventjon comprises a frame which lies under the first layer and on which are arranged the first layer and the second layer with cycle holders. The size of the frame hereby remains limited and, in contrast to the prior art, there is no necessity for a large framework with which the second layer can be supported, In yet another embodiment of the device according to the invention each cycle holder comprises a ride-on gutter on which a cycle can be parked. The ride-on gutter ensures that the cycle is guided and that the wheels cannot fall off the cycle holder.
In a preferred embodiment the ride-on gutter comprises at least one wheel openIng into which a wheel of a cycle partially fits. The cycle is hereby fixed onto the ride-on gutter by its own weight so that the cycle is not displaced when the cycle holder is carried from the loading and offloading position to the parked position, or vice versa.
In yet another preferred embodiment of the device according to the invention the cycle holders of the second layer comprise an arm with which the ride-on gutter is connected to the pivot points lying substantially at the level of the first layer. A simple and effective construction is hereby obtained.
In yet another embodiment the device comprises spring means for urging the cycle holders of the second layer to the parked position. The spring means can ensure that less force need be exerted during parking of a cycle in the device.
In yet another embodiment of the device a cycle holder comprises a cycle fork holder. This cycle fork holder ensures that the cycle remains upright. The cycle fork holder preferably comprises two arms arranged on either side of the cycle holder, these arms being urged toward each other so that a cycle fork can be held claznpingly between the arms. The cycle can thus be placed in a stable manner in the cycle holder. This moreover ensures that practically any model of cycle can be placed in the device.
These and other features of the invention are further elucidated with reference to the accompanying drawings.
Figure 1 shows a perspective view of an embodiment of the device according to the invention.
Figure 2 shows a side view of a device according to figure 1 with a cycle holder in the loading and offloading position.
Figure 3 Shows a top view of the device of figure 1.
Figure 1 shows a first embodiment 1 of a device according to the invention. This device 1 has a frame 2 on which fixed cycle holders 3 are arranged at a first level.
These cycle holders 3 comprise a ride-on gutter 4 and an arm 5 with which the ride-on gutters 4 are arranged on frame 2.
Cycle holders 6 are arranged at a second level.
These cycle holders 6 likewise have a cycle wheel gutter ? which is arranged around pivot point 9 on frame 2 by n"eans of an arm 8. Handles 10 are arranged on cycle wheel gutters 7 so that a user can carry a cycle holder from the shown parking position to a loading and of floadirtg position.
Figure 2 shows this loading and offloadjng position. Cycle wheel gutter 7 on which cycle F is placed is tilted around pivot point 9 so that a user can take cycle F off the cycle holder. Proiided between frame 2 and arm 8 is a gas spring 11 which reduces the forces required to carry the cycle between the different positions.
A cycle fork holder consisting of two arms 12 is arranged on cycle wheel gutter 7.
This cycle fork holder 12 is shown in top view in figure 3. The arms form a V-shaped opening between which a front fork of a cycle F can be placed and where it can also be clamped fixedly.
Figure 3 shows clearly that ride-on gutters 4, 7 are provided with openings 13, 14 in which respectively a front or rear wheel can be placed. A part of the wheel falls herein so that the cycle is held upright and furthermore cannot move out of the ride-on gutter.
