Abstract

242,726. Igranic Electric Co., Ltd., and Tubbs, C. F. Aug. 19, 1924. Automatic c i r c u i t - breakers, tripped to open by the movement of a bimetallic member 1, are adjusted to operate at any desired temperature of the member 1 by two devices, such as screws 12, 14, which determine the position of a plate 11 which bears at 10 against the member 1. The member is V-shaped and may be surrounded by a heating coil and the screw 12, which is mounted in a frame 13 by means of a ball joint, is turned by a pointer 15 which moves over a scale which may be calibrated in percentages of overload. The screw 41 is used for coarse adjustment or zero setting. When the current reaches a strengtth corresponding to the predetermined overload, the end 9<a> of the bimetallic member 1 moves to the left and releases a spring-controlled bell-crank lever 9, 6 carrying a contact 5, which thereupon moves away from a contact 4. The device is re-set by a push-button 17. To compensate for variations of atmospheric temperature a second bimetallic strip 19, Fig. 6, may be mounted on the opposite side of the panel 3 and connected by a pin 20 to the strip 1. The strips act in opposition and so do not move for variations of temperature which affect both equally.
