Abstract

In an automatic circuit breaker having a pivoted lever 67 retained by a latch 95 releasable by a bimetal 77 upon overload, the latch 95 is fixed to the free end of the bimetal 97, while the other end is supported by a biasing spring 91, whereby upon bending of the bimetal the latch 95 remains in contact with the lever 67 but pivots about a point 105 thereon until the lever is released. This permits the tripping current to be accurately predetermined without the need for adjusting devices. Some adjustment can, however, be made by levering the latch and bimetal apart or squeezing them together or providing an adjustable abutment 10711 (Fig. 8, not shown) on the latch.
