Abstract

1,249,508. Automatic circuit breakers. DORMAN SMITH SWITCHGEAR Ltd. 9 June, 1970 [27 June, 1969], No. 32561/69. Heading H1N. An automatic circuit-breaker is tripped by means of a thermal element mounted on, and in heat conducting contact with, an adjustably pivoted armature forming part of a single-turn magnetic circuit through which a conductor of the breaker passes. An overload armature 43 is pivoted to one limb of its U-shaped electromagnet 41, the air gap between them at the other end being adjustable by spindle 60 and knob 62. Bimetal 63 is riveted to the armature and engages a projection 64 on the trip-bar 35, such that when the bimetal is sufficiently deflected, the bar 35 rotates, releasing spring- biased arm 29 and tripping the breaker. A short-circuit electromagnet 40 is provided, having a pivoted armature 42 which is adjustable via knob 53, cam face 52, cam follower 51, and spring 48.
