Abstract

Puncture or deflation, indicating.-A device for visually signalling, by the exposure of distinctively coloured bands, the under or over inflation of a pneumatic tyre comprises a hollow piston 16 carried in a casing 15 and pressed by a spring 17 against a flexible diaphragm 13 which is clamped between the edges of the casing 15 and the edges of an air-chamber 1, the spring pressure being so arranged that the diaphragm lies as a flat disc in the normal position. The air chamber 1 communicates through ports 11, 10 with the tyre valve x which is held open by a projection 8 engaging the valve stem 9. Signal bands 15<c>, 15<d> on the casing 15 are normally covered by a cylindrical piece 20 which is carried on pins 21 formed on the piston 16 and projecting laterally through apertures 15<b> in the casing 15. On a rise or fall in tyre pressure, the piece 20 slides on ribs in the casing 15 as the piston is moved by the diaphragm to uncover one or other of the signal bands 15<c>, 15<d>.
