Abstract

Transformers.-Relates to transformers in which the windings comprise a number of coils 11 separated by radial spacing elements 14 to permit free circulation of the cooling medium, and consists in the provision of spacers of substantially rectangular cross-section and having transverse ducts 19 communicating with all four faces. As shown in Fig. 3, the spacers comprise a number of strips of insulating material built up to form a U-shaped member, the limbs of which are adapted to embrace a coil, and alternate sections of the spacer are provided with oppositely directed notches, the several sections being secured together after assembly by a securing strip 18. Fig. 4 shows a modification in which the notches forming the ducts extend in different directions across the spacer. In a further modification, the spacers comprise a single side member only with a projection at one end adapted to extend along the base of a coil, the coils in this case being separated by the thickness of a single spacer limb instead of two.
