Abstract

241,305. Brown, Lenox, & Co. (London), Ltd., Lenox, H., and Ellis, A. J. J. July 28, 1924. Tanks.-Tanks are built of flanged plates, some. having flanges on all four sides, some on three sides, and others only on two, the corners of the plates where three or more adjoin being covered by cover plates secured thereto. Fig. 1 shows the inside and Fig. 2 the outside of a tank in which the bottom is formed of dished plates 1 having four flanges 2, and the sides and ends next the bottom are formed of plates 3 having three flanges 4 and cover plates 5 having two flanges 6. The flanges are drilled to receive bolts or rivets as are also the unflanged edges of the plates where they join the flanges of other plates. The upper plates of the sides and ends are formed of plates 8 having four flanges and plates 9 having three flanges 10. Plates 11, 12, 15, 16 are riveted inside the tank where the corners of the plate meet in order to cover small holes formed by the slight rounding of the flanges on the plates. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 22900/01.
