Abstract
241,132. Mathys, A. W., (Dunn Manufacturing Co.). June 8, 1925. Hooks, spring, safety, and closed. - A closed hook of the type in which the hook member is pivotally mounted on a shank which is integral with the mousing member or keeper, comprises a hook 16 pivoted to a shank 10 and integral keeper 19. The shank 10 is swivelled in the lower end of a loop 12 on ball bearings. Inside the hook body a lever 23 having a tooth 30 for engagement with a corresponding recess in the shank, is pivoted at 25. A spring 27 presses on the opposite end of the lever 23. Part of the lever 23. formed as a finger grip 24 projects into a transverse hole 20 in the hook member. Normally the hook is locked in the closed position, but on releasing the tooth 30 by pressing the grip 24, the hook can be turned in either direction about the pivot 15 and maintained on either side of the closed position by allowing the tooth 30 to engage with one of the adjacent surfaces of the shank. A drain hole 29 is provided through which the spring 27 can be inserted in assembling the hook.
