Open fireplaces.-To prevent risk of fire, owing to entry of sparks &c. to the space 12 behind the wooden mantel 6, the stove front 2 is provided with an integral or attached top flange 8 which enters a recess in the brickwork and forms a seal; side flanges also entering recesses in the brickwork may also be provided. In the stove shown, only the upper part 6 of the mantel is of wood, the jambs being integral with the stove front; wooden side members may, however, be provided.
