Abstract

A building block is manufactured with a groove for the reception of electrical wiring etc. The grooves are preferably cast into the block during production. The blocks are rectangular and may be 450mm long by 100mm wide. Preferably, at the first and third quarter lines grooves 25mm wide by 20mm deep are provided. Provision of grooves in blocks eradicates the need for "chasing out" of traditional blocks which can cause weakening of the blocks. In use, the grooves on the blocks extend vertically across a surface of a wall.

Description

BUILDING BLOCK
The invention relates to building blocks used in the construction of any type of building where required.
Similar rectangular blocks are commonly used in the construction and building industry but once laid they require "chasing out" or channelling in order for services, e.g. electrical wiring to be installed. Chasing out existing blocks causes a certain amount of impact and can weaken and disturb the structure.
The invention will eliminate the chasing out process thus making the installation of electrical wiring and other services not only much quicker but neater. The invention will also reduce the impact and disturbance against the structure because the chasing out recesses are cast into the.
building block at the manufacturing stage.
The invention is a building block of rectangular dimension, with two recessed channels, positioned at the first and third quarter line.
The building block would most likely be manufactured using a material that includes cement, ash, clay or clinker. However, the building block may and/or could be manufactured using a material suitable for the building blocks' purpose, which withstands the loading, intended to be put on it.
A preferred embodiment of the invention will now be described with the : reference to the accompanying drawing in which: : DRAWING 1/1 shows a plan view of the building block a.
DRAWING 1/2 shows the building block as you would see it if it were laid in a wall. This drawing should be rotated through ninety degrees, clockwise from the title "Drawing 1/2" As shown in DRAWING 1/1, the building block is of rectangular dimension. The length is 450mm and the width is lOOmm except at the first and third quarter line where there are 25mm long by 20mm deep recesses.
DRAWING 1/2 shows the building block in three dimensions. The height of the building block is 21 5mm. :. .e . -.. . .. - .. I.
