Abstract
A baby, child or adult bib 1 provided with a detachable collar 2 of foam material. In use, the collar 2 fits snugly under the chin of the wearer, so as to catch and soak up any unwanted liquid that flows from the mouth, down under the chin and to the neck area. This will stop soreness and rashes in the folds of the neck and prevent all top clothes in the neck and chest area from becoming uncomfortably wet.
Description
BIB
This invention relates to bibs, and relates particularly, but not exclusively, to bibs for babies and young children.
The invention may also be applied to bibs for adults, for example, geriatric patients.
According to the present invention, a bib is provided with a detachable collar of foam material which, in use, fits snugly under the chin of the wearer.
The mouth cannot cope with large amounts from feeding bottles or cups so that excess liquid runs down the side of the mouth, under the chin and into the fold of the neck.
This becomes very sore and rashes can occur. The liquid can eventually wet through all top clothes at the chest and neck area.
The present invention prevents liquid travellig to the neck area of the wearer. The foam material of the collar will catch and soak up any excess liquid, leaving the neck and clothes substantially dry, and thus avoiding the development of rashes or soreness. The bib is comfortable to wear and does not restrict movement of the user.
An embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example only, with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein: Figure 1 is a front view of a bib, and Figure 2 is a front view of the detachable collar 2 thereof.
The figures show a baby's bib I provided with a detachable collar 2 of foam material, which, in use, fits snugly under the chin of the wearer.
The bib 1 comprises a fat front 3 made of absorbent material such as towelling. The front 3 may, alternatively, be made of a liquid-proof plastics material such as P.V.C.
(Polyvinyl Chloride).
The detachable collar 2 is of cellular plastics material such as P.V.C. (Polyvinyl Chloride). The collar 2 may have a hollow, tubular, form, or it may be "solid", i.e. non-tubular in lateral cross-section. Either way, the foam plastics material possesses sufficient resilience to conform to the wearer's neck. Preferably, the material of the collar 2 is fire retardant and hypoallergenic.
The collar 2 is demountably attached to the front 3 by "VELCRO" (Registered Trade Mark) fastenings, as indicated at 4. Alternatively, other releasable fastenings such as press studs may be employed.
The ends of the collar 2 have lateral extensions 5 which may comprise fabric strips.
These extensions, which extend laterally beyond the sides of the front 3, carry pads 6 of "VELCRO" (Registered Trade Mark) material whereby the extensions 5 may be demountably secured to each other, so that the bib 1 is releasably secured round the neck of the wearer.
In use, the foam material of the collar 2 will trap and soak any excess liquid, leaving the neck and clothes substantially dry.
The collar 2 can be easily removed from the rest of the bib 1, and laundered in the usual manner.
Larger versions of the bib 1 can be used by adults, for example by geriatric patients, or when washing or shampooing the hair.
