Description
Hairdressers Accessory
This invention relates to neck pads and in particularly to neck pads for use in hairdressing saloons.
In hairdressing saloons, both women's and mens hairdressing saloons, a person whose hair is being treated normally has to have his or her hair washed prior to cutting and/or styling. When the hair is being washed or rinsed the person normally lies back with his or her neck resting against the rim of the basin or sink in which the hair is washed.
In many hairdressing saloons there is provided a cut out in the front portion of the basin to receive the lower portion of the neck. A towel is normally wrapped about the neck of the person being treated in an attempt to prevent water from running down his or her neck.
Because the basins are usually made of ceramic material the rim is hard and cold and it can be extremely uncomfortable to lie with the neck resting on this rim especially when washing and rinsing takes some time. Furthermore water normally soaks the towel and then runs down the persons neck thereby wetting the clothes of the person whose hair is being treated.
The present invention seeks to provide a neck pad which can be positioned between a persons neck and a basin or sink in a hairdressing saloon thus making rinsing and washing more comfortable and also assisting in prevent water from running down the persons neck.
Accordingly the present invention provides a neck pad which is capable of being worn by a user in a hairdressing saloon, the neck pad comprising a pad of deformable material contained within a waterproof covering, the ends of the covering having securing means enabling the ends of the covering to be attached together and to secure neck pad around the neck of the user.
The pad can be centrally located within the covering, and padding can be provided within the covering on either side of the central pad.
The pad comprises any suitable deformable material such as a natural or artificial sponge, a plastics foam material, or a rubber material.
The cover can be any suitable waterproof plastics material, eg a soft polyvinyl chloride plastics material. Alternatively the covering can be a woven or non-woven textile fabric which has been treated with a waterproofing agent.
The securing means can comprise a VELCRO (registered trade mark) strip at each end of the covering or the securing means can comprise press-studs, or ties.
The neck pad can also have cloak attached to it. The cloak can be made in panels from a plastics material and be approximately shoulder length.
The present invention will now be more particularly described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which;
Figure 1 shows one form of neck pad according to the present invention;
Figure 2 is a section on line A-A in figure 1; and
Figure 3 shows a further form of neck pad according to the present invention.
Referring to the drawings there is shown a neck pad (10) comprising a cushion (12) contained within a covering (14).
The cushion (12) comprises a pad of sponge or plastics foam material and the covering (14) comprises two identical pieces of soft polyvinyl chloride which are joined together along their edges by heat sealing to form a sealed rim (16).
The two pieces of the covering are also joined together by heat sealing along lines A and B on either side of the cushion pad.
At each end of the covering, and on opposite sides thereof, there is a VELCRO (registered trade mark) strip of material (18), (20).
In use the neck pad is secured around the neck of the person whose hair is to be washed by placing the pad on the back of the neck and joining the ends of the covering (14) together by means of the VELCRO strips (18), (20).
The pad (10) is then in position so that when the users neck is placed on the rim of the basin or sink the cushion (12) lies between the neck of the user and the basin prevents direct contact between the neck of the user and the cold sink or basin.
Also the presence of the neck pad (10) assists in preventing water from running down the neck of the user.
After washing rinsing or other treatment has been completed the neck pad is easily removed by drawing the two VELCRO strips apart and taking the neck pad from the neck of the user.
Referring to figure 3 in which corresponding components have been given the same reference numerals, a clock (22) is attached to the covering (14). The cloak (22) is formed in panels, for example from a plastics material and is approximately shoulder length, though it can be longer if necessary. The cloak acts to present the shoulders and upper back of the wearer from becoming damp or wet. Further slight padding (24) is provided on either side of the pad (12) to give more body and support to the covering (14) on either side of the pad (12).
The material of the cover can be any appropriate material which is either waterproof in itself or which can be waterproofed and which is preferably resistant to staining by chemicals used in the treatment of hair.
For example the covering can be a woven or non-woven textile material made from natural or man made fibres or a combination of natural and man made fibres which has subsequently been treated by a waterproofing agent.
The cushion pad can be made of any material which will provide a suitable cushion for the neck of the user such as natural or man made sponge, a plastics foam material, or a rubber material.
The securing means at the ends of the cover can be press studs or ties or one or more lengths of elastic material.
It will be appreciated that a neck pad according to the present invention prevents the discomfort caused by direct contact between the neck of the user and the sink or basin commonly used in hairdressing saloons and also aids in preventing water from running down the neck of the user.
The neck pad (10) can be coloured and or decorated with any suitable pattern.
The neck pad (10) can also be treated with suitable materials to render it resistant to staining by materials commonly used in hairdressing saloons.
The covering (14) on either side of the pad cushion (12) can include a slight foam padding in order to give more body and support to the neck pad on both sides of the cushion (12).
