Description
-1- THE MULTI-PURPOSE REVERSIBLE CAPE This invention relates to the hairdressing profession. The main function of this invention is an improvement to prevent towels slipping from clients shoulders which is still a major problem for the hairdresser and the client, it prevents cross infection from towels slipping onto the floor, so it serves the purpose of being hygienic.
At this present time hairdressers are using long capes that cover shoulders and knees which fasten at the back of the neck. When a Towel is required to either shampoo, perm, tint or bleach a clients hair a clip has to be used to join the towel under the clients chin to prevent the towel slipping from the clients shoulders.
Some clients do not like a clip used under the chin as it limits their restriction and feels uncomfortable, the other alternative is to tuck it under the collar, which keeps slipping out. Other previous garments appear to serve as a protective barrier, like a bib, they are not a towel in itself. They do not completely cover the clients clothes, they are not reversible for cutting hair and they do not replace an actual towel to use on the clients head after washing.
Patent Number DE3227960 Ebel Hubert.. This patent appears to be used as a protective barrier type of bib it covers the neck and shoulders area only, it is not reversible for cutting hair, it is not detachable for washing and it does not serve a purpose to replace towels to towel-dry hair after being shampooed.
Patent Number 4, 458, 364 Fenninger. This patent is a disposable towel type of bib, it does not cover the client completely and it does not serve a purpose to replace towels generally used in the salon to towel-dry hair after being shampooed. It is not reversible for cutting hair. The description explains that the pockets on the garment are used for Beauticians Barbers tools which would be inconvenient and uncomfortable for the client because of the weight in the garment. This garment is designed for one sided use as the disposable towel can only be replaced on one side of the garment.
Patent Number 5, 572, 740 Geniesse. This patent just covers the neck and shoulder area only. It is not the required length for full coverage, the arm area is exposed where chemicals would damage the clients clothing if it was used in a hair salon, that is probably why it is called a beautician's cape. It is not reversible for cutting hair or detachable for washing, the description explains the materials used in the design of this garment are sewn together for its function and it does not serve the purpose of using the towel to towel-dry hair.
Patent Number DE3423002 Ebel Hubert.. This patent covers the neck and top of the shoulder area the arm area is exposed so it does not provide full coverage to protect the clients clothing, it is another type of bib and serves only as part of a protective barrier. It is not reversible for cutting hair and does not appear to be detachable for washing and it does not serve the purpose of a towel to towel-dry hair.
Patent Number DE3221238 Schiesser Hannelore. This patent serves the purpose of a single use as a protective barrier type of bib, it does not serve the purpose of towels used when the clients hair has been washed to towel dry hair. It is not reversible for cutting hair and it is not detachable for washing.
-2- The difference between my garment and other garments previously mentioned is that it is an actual towel, in the form of a cape attached to a durable, flexible, plastic material which is detachable for washing and reversible for cutting hair.
It comes down over the shoulder to cover the average adults torso.
When placed on the clients shoulders it is in place of a towel generally used when the client is having their hair washed, it can then be used to towel dry hair and simply be replaced with a new towel for further treatments.
If the client requires to have their hair cut first, the garment will be turned so that the plastic exterior side of the cape is on the outside of the shoulders and the toweling underneath, it would then be simply reversed over to the toweling exterior side of the cape with the plastic cape underneath for further treatments that require moisture to be absorbed.
The cape is adjustable to fit neatly around the neck and shoulders from child to adult. The cape does not need to be separated for its purposes, but has the advantage of being able to detach for washing when necessary.
This cape serves as a fully protective multi-purpose garment that is convenient for the client and hairdresser their is no garment available that serves all these purposes. Market research has proved that hairdressers are waiting for a product like this to arrive.

-4- BRIEF DESCRIPTIONS OF DRAWINGS To assist with understanding the invention, reference will now be made to the accompanying drawings which show an example of the invention (Fig 2) shows interior of plastic cape which attaches to the interior of toweling cape on (Fig Hook and Loop Fasteners are attached to both the inner front openings of the interior capes, Hook and Loop Fasteners are at the front opening of the neck of each cape, together with press studs around the interior neck area of each interior cape. Special absorbent material is inside the interior neck area of the toweling material of the toweling cape.
The exterior of the plastic cape (Fig 1) shows how it will look when placed around the clients shoulders with the opening being at the front of the neck, which overlaps at the front to protect clients clothes.
(Fig 4) shows the exterior of toweling cape when placed around clients shoulders which overlaps at the front.
