Cl. 2-87 4 Claims ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A garment of liquid impervious flexible sheet material having a body covering part and arm covering sleeves, the body covering part having a resiliently contractile collar for snug engagement about a wearers neck, the sleeves having resiliently contractile cuffs for snug engagement about the wearers wrists, and an absorbent lining covering the interior of the garment.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION As is well known to those versed in the art of beauty care, the coloring or dyeing of hair is now extremely popular, and while there are types of protectors or body shields which have been proposed for use in the hair dyeing procedure, these devices have not been entirely satisfactory. For example, prior protective devices of this type have been unduly restricting to body movement so that a wearer could not perform the necessary operations upon herself, or have been so easily displaced or disheveled by body movement so as to defeat its protective purpose. Moreover, prior devices intended for this purpose have been lacking in the convenience of accessory holders and catchers for drippings and the like, and without full protection at the neck and wrists.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION Accordingly, it is an important object of the present invention to provide a beauty care protective garment of the type described which overcomes the above-mentioned difficulties in the prior art, permitting of complete and unobstructed body movement without sacrificing the protective characteristics so as to enable one to perform the desired beauty care operations upon herself; wherein extreme comfort is afforded to the user by the provision of an absorbent lining in conjunction with a liquid impervious protecting sheet material; and further including the convenience of receptacles for convenient accessibility to utensils employed in beauty care operations, as well as the reception of drippings, cuttings and the like.

It is a further object of the present invention to provide a highly improved beauty care protective garment having the advantageous characteristics mentioned in the preceding paragraph, which affords highly effective protection at the neck and wrists to exclude the entry thereat of undesired materials, and wherein a collar is provided which may be selectively closed snugly about the neck for certain operations, and positively retained in an open position away from the neck for other operations.

While the device of the present invention has been primarily designed and employed in the use of hair dyeing, and similar beauty care operations, and will be illustrated and described hereinafter with particular reference thereto, it is appreciated that theinstant device is capable of other applications requiring similar body protection, say in the bathing of young children or animals, or in the shampooing of the wearers hair, and the like.

Other objects of the present invention will become apparent upon reading the following specification and refer ring to the accompanying drawings, which form a material part of this disclosure.

DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT Referring now more patricularly to the drawing, the garment illustrated therein is generally designated 10, and includes a back section or part 11 fabricated of a flexible, liquid impervious sheet material, which may be treated fabric, plastic or the like and is adapted to cover the back of a wearers body, say from the neck to the hips. Along the lower region of the back part 11, extending laterally thereacross and coextensive therewith may be an upwardly folded portion 12 defining an upwardly opening receptacle or pocket.

A pair of front halves or

sections

13 and 14, each also fabricated of a suitable liquid impervious sheet material, are joined together along adjacent edges by a suitable openable closure means 16, such as a slide fastener and combine to define a front part of the garment 10. The front half or section 13 may be joined at its upper extremity, as by a seam 17 to an upper edge region of the back part 11, and similarly the front half or section 14 may be joined at its upper edge to an upper region of the back part 11, as by a seam 18. Further, the front half or section 13 is joined along its outer side edge to the adjacent side edge of the back part 11, as by a seam 19, while the front half or section 14 is joined along its outer side edge by a seam 20 t0 the adjacent side edge of back part 11. The lower end of the garment 10 is open, say to surround the hips of a wearer, and on the exterior of the

front sections

13 and 14, preferably along the lower edge thereof, may be provided a plurality of upwardly opening receptacles or pockets, as at 25 and 26 on the

front section

13 and 27 on the front section 14. The

front part

13, 14, the sections 25 and 26 being sized and configured suitably for certain utensils, such as a hairbrush 28 and comb 29, while the pocket or receptacle 27 may be relatively large for containing curlers 30 or the like. In addition, the pockets or

receptacles

25, 26 and 27 combine with the rear pocket or receptacle 12 to extend entirely about the lower circumferential region of the garment 10 to effectively receive and contain falling particles, say or hair or hair clippings, as Well as dripping liquids, and the like.

The openable closure or separable fastener 16 may extend from the lower edge of the

front part

13, 14 to the neck opening 21 for complete opening and closing of the front part, as between the conditions of FIGS. 1 and 4. Further, there is advantageously provided interiorly of the

front part

13, 14 and back part 11, a removable lining 32, advantageously fabricated of highly absorbent material, such as terry cloth or toweling. The lining 32 is suitably detachably secured interiorly of the garment 10, as by detachable securement means 33, which may assume the form of a slide fastener extending about the side and top edges of the lining. Of course, the lining may be provided with sleeves or arm holes, as at 34 and 35 in respective registry with arm holes or openings 22 and 23. By this construction, the garment may be worn directly over the users body in complete comfort, and the lining is readily removable for washing, as desired. Also, other detachable securement means than the slide fastener 33 may be employed, it being preferred to locate the detachable securement means beneath a flop or fly 36 for increased comfort to the wearer.

Connected to respective arm holes or openings defined in the

front part

13, 14 and back part 11, are a pair of tubular arm covers or

sleeves

40 and 41, respectively, which are also preferably fabricated of liquid impervious flexible sheet material. That is, the

40 and 41 com municate through respective arm openings 22 and 23 with the interior of the garment, and are provided on their distal ends with resiliently

contractile cuffs

42 and 43 for snug conforming engagement about the wrists of a wearer. By means of the sleeves '40 and 41 and the

cuffs

42 and 43, the arms of a wearer are effectively protected from falling clippings, drippings and the like. Also, liquid from the Wet hands of the wearer may not enter the

sleeves

40 and 41 through the

constricted cuffs

42 and 43.

Surrounding the neck opening 21 is a resiliently contractile collar 45, also advantageously fabricated of suitable liquid impervious flexible sheet material, being suitably secured to the

front part

13, 14 and back part 11, and upstanding thereform for snug conformably fitting circumposition about the wearers neck. The collar 45 may be split or open in the front, in alignment with the openable closure 16, having

end portions

46 and 47 terminating on opposite sides of the closure 16. Further, the

collar end portions

46 and 47 are respectively provided With detachable fastener elements, such as at 48 and 49, which fastener elements may comprise buttons, interfitting snaps, or the like. Advantageously, there are

plural fastener elements

48 and 49 for selective engagement with each other to close the collar 45 more tightly or loosely, as desired, in an upstanding relation circumposed about the wearers neck. In addition, the front part halves or

sections

13 and 14 are respectively provided with fastener elements 50 and 51 in the regions adjacent to

collar end portions

46 and 47. By this construction, the tubular flexible collar 45, in its open condition, is foldable downwardly and the fastener elements 48 are selectively with the fastener element 50, while the fastener elements 49 are selectively engageable with the fastener element 51. In this manner, the collar 45 is positively held in a downward position away from the Wearers neck, to facilitate 4 beauty operations proximate to the neck opening 21. This collar condition is best seen in FIG. 2.

From the foregoing, it is seen that the garment of the present invention fully protects a wearers body and arms from skin irritations, stains and the like as may result from the procedure of dyeing ones hair, as well as maintaining the body dry and clean during the act of shampooing, washing children or animals, and other like procedures. Further, utensils employed in such procedures are conveniently retained on the person of the user in the pockets of the garment, which pockets further serve to collect material which would otherwise fall to the floor or soil a persons clothes.

Although the present invention has been described in some detail by way of illustration and example for purposes of clarity of understanding, it is understood that certain changes and modifications may be made Within the spirit of the invention.

What is claimed is:

1. A beauty care protective garment fabricated of liquid impervious flexible sheet material and comprising a back part for covering the back of a wearer, an upwardly opening pocket extending laterally across the exterior of said back part for receiving hair cuttings and liquid drippings, a front part for covering the front of a wearer and connected to said back part to define a neck opening and a pair of arm openings, a plurality of pockets on said front part for holding beauty utensils, a resiliently contractile collar extending about said neck opening, a pair of sleeves extending from said arm openings for covering the wearers arms, a resiliently contractile cuff surrounding the distal end of each sleeve, and an absorbent lining covering the interior of said back and front parts.

2. A beauty care protective garment according to claim 1, said lining being fabricated of terry cloth, and detachable securement means removably securing said lining in position.

3. A beauty care protective garment according to claim 2, said front part comprising a pair of vertically extending half sections, vertically extending openable closure means fastening said half sections together, said collar being open in alignment with said openable closure means, and detachable fastener means for closing said collar.

4. A beauty care protective garment according to claim 3, said collar being foldable downwardly to overlie the upper regions of said front and back parts, and separable connections on said collar and upper front part regions for retaining said collar in its downwardly folded condition.
