topsleepingtgarments for signed to be worn by infants and young children while sleeping in cribs, beds, cots and the like, and to combine with said garment a small blanket .opening I2., and averticallydisposed button and .l vbutton- -hole closed front opening. I 3 extending downward from; said neck opening.
of such size and shape as to cover and thereby afford warmth and protection to the wearer of the garment and further, to provide said garment and cover with means, preferably flexible ties, adapted to be secured to the sides of the crib or bed, thus preventing the infant fromA falling out of the crib or bed, from 'kicking or pulling the garment and cover oi and at the same time, giving complete freedom of movement to the infants body within the garment, likewise to the arms and hands.
A further object of my invention is, to provide the garment with a transverse strip or panel connected to the lower end of the covering member and adapted to fold over the upper edges of the crib or bed covers, after same have been placed over the garment and its cover, thus preventing the infant from pulling the crib or bed covers up over its head and face.
A further object of my invention is, to provide simple and effective means for firmly attaching to the cover of the garment, a separate cover such as a blanket or quilt, thus assuring ample Warmth for the occupant of the garment.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, my invention consists in certain novel features of construction and arrangement of parts which will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which:
Fig. 1 is a front elevational view of my improved garment. u
Fig. 2 is a front elevational view of the garment with its cover and the bed clothes holding strip or panel, in folded position for use.
Fig. 3 is an enlarged vertical section taken on the line 3--3 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 4 is an enlarged vertical section taken on the line 4-4 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 5 is an elevational view showing a separately formed blanket detachably secured to the covering member of the garment.
Referring by numerals to the accompanying drawing which illustrates a preferred embodiment-of my invention, I 0 designates the main body of the garment which has the general shape of a conventional night gown or slumber robe and which includes sleeves Il, a neck and head The lower end of this garment is closed after the manner of a sleeping bag and secured to said lower end, is the upper edge of a blanket-like cover I4 composed of one or more layers of suitable fabric and which when folded upward overlies garment I0 up to the sleeves II.
Secured to the lower side corners of garment It and to the upper corners of blanket I4 are flexible tapes I5 and similar tapes I6 are secured to the lower corners of said blanket. These tapes serve as ties to detachably attach the garment and cover to the sides of the crib or bed occupied by the wearer of the garment.
Secured to the lower edge of covering member I 4 is a transverse panel or strip I I of one or more layers of fabric, preferably stitched or quilted to give it a certain degree of stability, and secured to the lower corners thereof are ties I8, similar to ties I5 and I6.
In use, the child after being placed in the garment I0, is laid in the crib or bed, and cover I4 is now turned upward so as to cover the greater portion of the wearers garment-enclosed body and tapes I5 and I6 are now tied to the sides of the crib or bed so as to retain occupant therein but at the same time, permitting a substantial degree of rolling or twisting movement of the garment-enclosed body, from one side to the other beneath cover I 4.
In the event that conventional bed clothes are needed to give additional warmth to the sleeping infant, said bed clothes are pulled up so as to wholly overlie cover I4 and strip I'I is now folded down over the upper edge of said bed clothes and when tapes I8 are tied to the sides of the crib or bed, the covered infant will be unable to grasp the bed clothes and pull same upward over the face or head.
In Fig. 5, I have shown an extra separate covering member or blanket I9, of the same size as cover I4 and to detachably connect this extra cover, the corners and sides thereof are equipped with the socket members 20 of conventional snap fasteners, the stud members 2| of which are secured to the corners and sides of cover I4.
Thus, it will be seen that I have provided an` infant, permits freedom of movement of the wearers body and arms while covered, cannot be kicked oi or pulled up over the head, prevents the wearer from falling off the bed or crib, can be used during warmer temperatures without any other coveringsV or blankets, thus eiecting a material saving in the laundering of separate coverings and provides a substantial factor of safety and comfort for infants during their sleeping and rest periods.
Minor changes in the size, form and construction of the various parts of my improved infants sleeping garment and cover may be made and substituted for those herein shown and described without departing from the spirit of my invention, the scope of which is set forth in the appended claim.
I claim as my invention:
In an infants sleeping garment and cover, a body and arms covering garment closed at its lower end, a body covering member permanently secured to the lower end of said body and arms covering member, and extending the full Width thereof, a transversely disposed reinforced strip of flexible material secured directly to the lower edge of the body covering member, and adapted to be turned downward so as to overlie the upper portion of an extra cover placed on the body covering member when the same isV turned upward, ties secured to the lower end of the body and arms covering member, ties secured to the lower end of said body covering member, and ties secured to the lower corners of said reinforced strip.
