Abstract
240,541. Atkinson, L. B. July 2, 1924. Hatching-appliances.-In an incubator a flaccid and detachable impermeable sheet c is placed upon the upper surface of the eggs a in the egg drawer b and engages with the egg drawer so as to prevent circulation of air about the eggs. Small diameter bars w may be used to hold the sheet in place at the margins of the drawer. Filling pieces d<1>, d<2>, are arranged around the drawer to prevent circulation from the upper to the lower side of the drawer. Heated air from a source h passes into the upper part of the casing and escapes through apertures g, and cool air entering the lower part of the casing through holes l passes under the eggs and out through passages f, o, p. The incubator may be heated by hot air, a tank, or electric heating-elements. In the last-mentioned case the heating-elements may be in thermal connection with the sheet. Rubber about seven thousandths of an inch in thickness is suggested as suitable material for the sheet. After the eighteenth day of incubation a semi-porous diaphragm may be substituted for the impermeable sheet.
