122,457. Forbes, Sir C. S. Jan. 21, 1918. Hatching and rearing appliances.-A hatching- appliance or incubator comprises a box or casing divided by partitions into a main heating chamber 6, a hatching compartment 7, a secondary heating compartment 15 disposed above the hatching compartment and separated therefrom by a horizontal partition 13, and an air chamber 17 positioned between the main heating chamber and the hatching compartment. The partitions are formed of asbestos cement sheeting, or other material. Air enters the main heating chamber 6 through openings 40 in the base, passing over water in an adjustable tray 19, and around the main heating element 18, then along the secondary heating compartment 15 past the secondary heating element 21, through the hatching compartment 7, under the partition 16 into the air chamber 17, and through outlet holes 41 formed in the sides of the box or casing. The main and secondary heating elements 18, 21 preferably consist of high-resistance wire wound in series on bars or rods of asbestos cement or other material. A thermostat 28 within the hatching compartment controls a switch 30 on the casing cover, as described in Specification 3847/15. A small pilot lamp 37 indicates the action of the current, and enables the eggs and chicks to be inspected through a window 38.
