Hatching-appliances. - A hatching-appliance comprises a water tank A with a flexible waterproof bottom B with the underside of which eggs. are brought into contact. The boiler R is heated by a lamp M, and the water passes up the pipe S, circulates through a spiral passage formed beneath a baffle-plate H, and passes down the pipe T to the boiler again. The temperature is controlled by a thermostatic capsule K and levers &c. L, Q, P, actuating a damper O. The eggs are placed in a drawer D supported by counterweights F on cords passing over pulleys G. A tray X, containing water or wet material, is placed beneath the drawer, and air passes over it through apertures V, passing away through apertures a' in a flap a. At the hatching period the drawer is lowered slightly and the eggs observed through a window b. A larger flap d gives access to the chicks &c.
