Clockwork actuation. - A device adapted to ring a bell &c. at a predetermined hour and minute, comprising a distributing switch, with two series of contacts A<5>, A<6> engaged by wipers C, C<1>, and a selector device for manually connecting any contact A<5> with any contact A<6>, has the distributing switch and the selector device constructed as separable units. There are 24 contacts A<5>, Fig. 4, arranged in a circle and adapted to be connected in turn by the wiper C which moves like an hour hand with a contact ring B<2> connected to a lead D; and there are 60 contacts A<6> arranged in a circle outside the contacts AS and adapted to be connected in turn by the wiper C<1> which moves like a minute hand to another ring B<2> connected to a second lead D. The contacts A<5>, A<6> end in tubular portions A<3>, A<4> which, when the selector device shown on the right of Fig. 2 is moved into place, are engaged by two concentric circles of rods E<7>, E<4>. The rods E<7> are each connected to one of 24 discs E<1> and any disc E<1> may be connected with any one of the 60 rods E<4> by the, insertion of a finger clip E<5>, Figs. 2 and 13, at the appropriate place. When the hour and minute selected by the clip E<5> arrive, the circuit D is completed and the bell rings. Fig. 8 shows a modified form of distributing switch in which wipers R, R<1> connect series of contacts Q<8>, Q<4> with leads R<11>, R<10>.
