Abstract

240,095. Burke, L. J. May 20, 1925. Baffles for the fire-tubes of boiler furnaces, of the kind comprising a spiral member loosely fitted in the flue and having pivoted to its upper end a cross-bar adapted to be turned so as to rest across the upper end of the flue and support the baffle, have the cross-bar provided with an elbow enabling it to take closely against the convolutions of the spiral, and with an aperture through which a hook-like implement may be placed for inserting or removing the baffle. The flues 5 are arranged vertically within the water-receiving casing 1 and contain the spiral members 6 suspended by pivots 17 from the cross-bars 7 having holes 18 and elbows 20. Pivotally mounted on the angular steam discharge pipe 12 of the boiler is a cap 8 having an eccentric aperture 14 for the escape of the flue gases, this aperture being of slightly larger diameter than the baffles 6. By turning the cap 8 this aperture 14 may be made to register with each of the flues 5 whereby the baffles mav be removed bv a tool 19 as shown at the right-hand side of Fig. 1. The part 11 of the steam discharge pipe 12 on which the cap 8 is pivoted may be closed by a cover 21 or may be connected to another steam-pipe.
