Abstract

239,490. Rostaing, P. Sept. 4, 1924, [Convention date]. Wick burners, flat-flame, flame regulating in.- The wicks of a multiple wick burner are raised and lowered simultaneously by rotating a spindle 9, Fig. 1, operating through pinion and rack gearing 8, 7 a plate 11 carrying flexible strips 12 formed with teeth 13. The wick-tubes 4 are slidable with considerable friction in the burner head 1 and are connected together near their upper ends by a plate 5 and near their lower ends by welding together tongue members 6 bent outwardly from the tubes. In the normal position of the wick-tubes the flexible strips 12 slide in grooves formed by raised parts 14 in the wicktubes and the teeth 13 engage with the wicks, but when the wick-tubes are in their uppermost position and the plate 11 is moved to its lowest position the members 6 allow the strips 12 to move inwardly, thereby disengaging the teeth 13 from the wicks and allowing the wicks to be slid out of the wick-tubes for replacement. The flame may also be varied by adjusting the height of the wick-tubes in respect to a ring 16 provided in the chimney 15. In another construction of burner shown in Fig. 8, the flexible strips 12 are carried by a plate 11<1> operated by a screw 17 which is rotated by a worm-wheel driven by an endless screw 19 on the spindle 9. The plate 11<1> is prevented from rotating by supports 20 secured to the burner head 1. The supports 20 are formed with projections 23 for limiting the movement of the plate 11<1>. Removal of the plate 11' is permitted on the supports being bent outwardly. The endless screw may alternatively be arranged to engage radial teeth 18' on the upper surface of the wheel 18.
