239,483. Zaidan Hojin Rikagaku Kenkyujo. Sept. 8, 1924, [Convention date]. Insecticides.-Liquid insecticides are prepared by mixing the active ingredient of derris root, or solutions or extracts containing it, with one or more oils, fats, waxes, resins, higher hydrocarbons, higher alcohols such as glycerine, or higher fatty acids, but not including Turkey red oil, to form a stable preparation free from water or alkali, and then mixing this at the time of use with water or a colloidal aqueous solution such as soap solution. According to examples, solutions or extracts of the active substance in ether or petroleum ether are mixed with various mixtures of oils, fats, waxes, &c., and the ether &c. is recovered by evaporation so as to leave semi-solid preparations suitable for storage; these are added to soap solutions and further diluted with water at the time of use. Examples of suitable oils, fats, waxes, &c., colloidal substances, and solvents for the active ingredient are specified; and known preparations such as solutions of fresh derris juice, alcoholic extracts of the dried root, and mixtures of the active ingredient of derris with soap powder are referred to.
