Abstract

238,845. General Electric Co., Ltd., (Assignees of Patent Treuhand Ges. f³r Elektrische Gluhlampen). Aug. 22, 1924, [Convention date]. Vacuum tubes.-A discharge tube suitable for use in lighting and advertising is provided with one or more electrodes bl - - b<9>, Fig. 1, intermediate to the end electrodes b, b<10>, each length of tube between two adjacent electrodes being excited bv a separate secondary winding g of a transformer, in such a way that current in adjacent sections of the tube is in opposite directions and the maximum potential difference is the same as that of one section. The secondary windings may all be on one transformer, in the primary circuit of which a variable resistance e may be connected; or a number of transformers may be provided. Each section of the tube may be fed by several windings. The electrodes may be placed in short branch tubes c. Regulating- devices may be provided so that certain sections, for instance those corresponding to the downstrokes of a script sign, may be more luminous than the others. In a forked tube, for instance one of Y form, the currents in two branches may unite to pass through the third. Another form of tube is shown in Fig. 3, those electrodes marked A being connected to similar ends of the transformer secondaries, and those marked E to the opposite ends of the secondaries. Specifications 12582/02 and 14864/12 are referred to.
