Abstract

238,744. Blackburn Aeroplane & Motor Co., Ltd., Bumpus, F. A., and Rennie, J. D. Oct. 30, 1924. Floats for aerial machines.-The arrangement described in Specification 238,711. in which the after portion of a float is angularly adjustable relatively to the forward portion, and one or more landing wheels are carried by the movable portion so that raising the float lowers the wheels and vice versa, is modified to allow the wheel frame to be moved through a greater angle than the float, the wheels being connected by struts direct to the fuselage instead of to the float. As shown, the fixed portion A is secured elastically to the fuselage by struts D. The hinged portion B is connected bv links P' to short cranks P on a torsion tube M carried by a girder N, and rotatable for example by means of the bevel worm gearing shown in Fig. 5. The wheel is carried by a fork H, connected by an oleo or elastically sprung strut H<2> to a girder R, and supported by a pair of links H<3> pivoted to cranks L on the tube M. For alighting on land, the tube is rotated until the links H<3> and cranks L are in a straight line, and, for alighting on water, until the links P' are in a straight line with the cranks P.
