Abstract

Closure members, lift.-A lift valve constructed of sheet metal and of the type comprising a discshaped head mounted on a central spindle is adapted to change its diameter when forced on its seat. In the form shown in the Figure, the valve is provided with a flange arranged at an angle with the main body, said angle being slightly greater or slightly less than the angle of the valve seat. The spindle 16 has an enlargement 18 formed by upsetting the end and then reduced to form a tenon 20. This tenon is passed through non-circular holes in the valve member and reinforcing washers and subsequently upset to secure the whole together. The flange is arranged so that whether it is inclined inwardly or outwardly its free edge contacts first with the valve seat. In a modification, the valve member has a spherical seating surface adapted to cooperate with a spherical seating surface of slightly differing radius. The valves may be made of metal known under the registered Trade Mark " Monel."
