Abstract
238,601. Linotype & Machinery, Ltd., and Jackson, A. F. May 19, 1924. Escapements for type - barmaking machines. Relates to means for releasing matrices, type, &c. from different magazine channels by successive operations of the same key. The key-rod 1 is movable laterally within a guide 2, and has an enlarged head 3, which is adapted to engage either of two escapement - rods 7, 8. The lateral adjustment is effected by a pin 4 on the key-rod in cooperation with a fixed guideplate 5 and a pivoted gravity switch 6. The plate 5 has a V-shaped recess 9, between the sides of which and the lower end of the switch 6 is formed an inclined guiding channel for the pin 4 on one side or the other of the switch. The switch is pivoted to a horizontally-sliding plate 11 having an inverted V- shaped recess 14, which is also engaged by the pin 4. Upon the ascent of the key-rod, the pin 4 shifts the plate 11, and causes the switch to rock, so that the key-rod is guided to the right and to the left of the switch alternately.
