Abstract

A hand-held hair colouring device consisting of a handle 12 containing a liquid reservoir 11 attached to a double headed applicator. The applicator is made up of two flexible arms 4 each fitted with pads 2 which are designed to grip strands of hair when the two arms are pressed together. Hair treatment liquid is fed from the reservoir to the pads and through a supply channel 3 which passes through each of the flexible arms. A sliding grip 6 may be moved toward the applicator pads thus holding the arms and thus the pads together. In use the flexible arms are pressed together causing the pads to grip the hair and the treatment liquid is then applied as the applicator is moved along the strands of hair.

Description

<Desc/Clms Page number 1>
HAIR COLOURING DEVICE The invention relates to a method of colouring individual or multiple strands of a persons hair without resorting to dying the entire head of hair of the individual.
Hair dying to cover graying of hair is common-place. However, many people do not have sufficient gray hair to warrant the dying of all of their hair. Instead they may prefer to colour only those strands which have changed from their original or desired colour.
The objective of this invention is to provide a hand held device that will hold or grip either a single or several hair strands and allow hair dye or colouring to be applied down the length of the specified strand (s).
The basis of the invention is that individual (or multiple) strands of hair will be held by the device using a small gripping mechanism. Where the grip makes contact with the hair, the hair will be held by a'hair notch', through which the hair dye or hair colouring will transfer to the strand (s). The full length of the hair may be coloured by pulling the device down the length of hair (s) gripped. It is intended that the'notch'will grip the hair sufficiently to make contact whilst still allowing the device to run up and down the hair strand (s), without pulling it or them out.
The key element to the device will be the part which holds the hair strand (s) incorporating the'hair notch'.
It is intended that the device could act as a vehicle for a range of different colours of hair dye so that there will be an option to have an inter-changeable mechanism. This will allow the original device to be re-filled, or will allow the device to be used for an alternative hair colour. The mechanism by which the handle fits to the head of the hair colouring device could be by either a screw thread, push on or other suitable mechanism.
It is intended that different shaped handles, which also act as the hair dye reservoir, can be used with the
hair colouring device. Two such examples are demonstrated in figure 1 and figure 3, where a'pen'and 'pistol grip'handle are shown respectively. Other designs could prove to be suitable.
The design also shows a sliding grip that pushes the gripping arms together to form a notch. The arms could be designed to have grips directly on them so they are pushed together directly and without using a slide mechanism.
The sliding grip could be designed so that it holds in place once pushed up to close the arm grips together, although option is an alternative that is peripheral to main design objective.
FIGURE 1 shows a side view in cross section of the device. This uses the'pen'handle version of the device incorporating the hair dye reservoir.
FIGURE 2 shows an enlargement of the hair holding receptacle or'notch'where contact is made with the hair and dye/colouring transferred. The alternative'arm grips'rather than sliding grips are shown in this figure.
FIGURE 3 shows the alternative'pistol grip'handle incorporating the hair dye reservoir, which could be another example of many possible handle designs.
As shown in Figures I and 2, the device includes a gripping'notch'1 that holds the hair. The gripping notch is made of a porous material that holds hair dye or colouring and transfers it to the hair upon contact with the hair strand (s). The notch sits in the center of the gripping pads 2, which when pushed together form the hair'notch'. These are situated at the ends of the hair grip arms, 4. In Figure 2 the alternative arm grips, 5, are shown. These would negate the need for a sliding grip, 5, as shown in Figure 1.
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
The dye is supplied through a small hair dye supply channel, 3, which run through the hair grip arms, 4.
These connect the dye reservoir, 11, to the hair notch.
A grip, 5, can be moved forward by holding the slide grips, 6. This will push the hair grip arms together so that the pads at the end of the arms meet to form the hair notch.
8, is where the hair dye supply channels meet and merge into a single point. At the end of this there will be a point, 10, sharp enough to pierce the dye reservoir, which will also have a hole that will allow the hair dye to flow into the channels and up the hair grip arms to the hair notch.
The hair dye reservoir, 11, sits inside the handle of the device, either 12 in figure 1 or 13 in figure 2. Other handle shapes and designs may be more suitable than the two examples shown.
The handles will either screw onto the head of the device at 9, or will push onto the head with some other holding mechanism depending upon the most suitable following design research.

Claims (3)

  1. CLAIMS I. A hand held, hair colouring/dying device allowing the colouring/dying of single or multiple strands of hair.
