Abstract
A plant-growing assembly comprises a flat base 10 to support a grow bag etc, the base being supported on ground-engaging wheels 12, and a support arrangement projecting upwards from the base at or adjacent its rear edge, for supporting plants as they grow. The support arrangement comprising horizontal lines 16 extending between upright posts 14, each line 16 having a fitting (18) at each of its ends in the form of an enlarged head which communicates with keyhole shaped recesses (15) in the upright posts 14.

Plant-growing assembly
The present invention relates to an assembly on which to grow tomato or other plants, particularly from grow bags.
It has become popular to grow tomato and other plants from grow bags but the practice meets with varying degrees of success. Firstly, it is difficult to select an appropriate location, were the plant will be sure to catch sufficient sunlight for effective growth. Secondly, it is often complicated to provide effective support for the plants as they grow.
I have now devised an assembly on which tomato or other plants may be grown, which alleviates the above difficulties.
In accordance with the present invention, there is provided a plant-growing assembly which comprises a flat base supported on a set of ground-engaging wheels, and a supporting arrangement, projecting upwards form the base at or adjacent its rear edge, for use in supporting plants as they grow.
In use, a grow bag is laid on the flat base of the assembly. The assembly is easy to move, when required, for the plants to catch the available sunlight. As the plants grow, the supporting arrangement is used to support them.
Preferably the supporting arrangement for the plants comprises a number of horizontally-extending lines of wire, thread or other elongate flexible filament material. Preferably these lines extend between a pair of uprights which project upwardly from the base at or adjacent its rear edge.
Preferably the horizontal lines are provided with fittings, at their opposite ends, which have enlarged heads for engagement in keyhole-shaped recesses or apertures in the respective uprights.
Preferably the base of the assembly comprises an openframe structure, preferably comprising a generally rectangular frame having one or more cross-pieces intermediate it opposite ends.
An embodiment of the present invention will now be described by way of example only and with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
FIGURE 1 is an isometric view of an assembly on which to grow tomatoes or other plants;
FIGURE 2 is a top plan view of the assembly shown in Figure 1 ;
FIGURE 3 is a front view of the assembly ; and
FIGURE 4 is an enlarged view showing the arrangement for attaching each of the supporting lines to the uprights of the assembly.
Referring to Figure 1 to 3 of the drawings, there is shown an assembly which is particularly useful for growing tomato plants from grow-bags. The assembly comprises a rectangular base 10 supported on six castors 12 (two at each end and two in the middle, at the front and rear). The base 10 is of an open-frame structure, in the form of a rectangular frame having two cross-pieces 13.
The assembly further comprises a pair of uprights 14, projecting vertically upwards from the base 10 at the opposite ends of its rear edge. A number of supporting lines 16 extend horizontally between the two uprights 14, the lines 16 being formed of nylon thread for example.
As shown in Figure 4, each line 16 has a fitting 18 attached to each of its opposite ends, the fitting 18 having an enlarged head. Each of the uprights 14 is formed, on its inwardly-facing side, with a series of keyhole-shaped recesses or apertures 15, spaced apart along its length: each of the supporting lines 16 is mounted in position, tensioned between the two uprights 14, by engagement of its end fittings 18 into selected apertures 15 of the respective uprights.
In use, a grow bag is supported on the flat base 10 of the assembly. As the plants grow, the supporting lines 16 are used to help support the plants. The assembly is easy to move when required, for the plants to catch the available sunlight.
In the example shown, the uprights 14 can be detached from the base 10, so that the assembly can be stored away in a compact form.
Typically, the base 10 and uprights 14 may be made of plastics material or of wood.
