Contents, facilitating access to.-A trunk, suit case, &c. of the kind having a tray supported upon a ledge within the body portion is furnished with means, operable from outside the lid, for causing the tray to be lifted within the lid when the latter is opened. In the form shown in Fig. 2, straps 5 secured to the rear wall 7 of the lid pass under the tray and over the front edge of the lid, terminating in a ring or rings 8 adapted to be engaged over one or more catches 9 disposed on the top surface of the lid. According to the construction shown in Fig. 7, resilient vertically adjustable catches 14 mounted within the end parts of the lid have inturned lower ends 17 adapted to engage under parts 18 secured to the ends of the tray. The catches are connected to. and may be released from the tray by pulling upon, finger-pieces 23 disposed outside the lid ends. Fig. 13 shows a form in which bolts 26. slidable through slots in the ends of the lid, are adapted to engage serrated or toothed plates 28 on the tray. The bolts are attached to resilient finger-pieces 29 secured to the lid ends; pulling out the finger-pieces releases the bolts and frees the tray. The inner ends of the bolts may be formed with detents adapted to be held in engagement with the plates 28 by the aid of springs.
