Abstract
A skirting board 1 comprises a board 2 with an elongate projection 5 extending from the top to abut the wall above an existing skirting board 6 over which it is placed. Another embodiment shows in Figure 2 a wooden skirting board (11) with a first elongate projection (15) at the top end, a second elongate portion (16) at the bottom. The cavity (17) created between the two projections (15, 16) may be used as a conduit for carrying cables or pipes (18A, 18B). The same idea may be applied to an architrave for use around a door frame. In Figure 3, lengths of such skirting and architrave are joined at right angles by a hollow junction block (22) with a right angled cavity (23) to accommodate cables or pipes.
Description
Title : Novel Skirting Board & Architrave
The present invention relates to novel skirting board and architrave.
Many rooms in houses have a skirting board at the bottom of the wall. If it is desired to replace it, it must be prised off the wall and this can lead to damage of the wall and damage to any decoration on the wall such as paint or wallpaper.
Some floors are covered with a wood laminate. The floor is laid with a gap between sides of the laminate floor and the walls to allow for any swelling of the laminate floor. In order to disguise this gap, the skirting boards need to be removed and the floor laid, and the skirting board replaced to cover the gap. Again this can damage the wall and any decoration and this is an expensive option. Alternatively the gap is covered by beading which can look unsightly.
Also it is sometimes desirable to run electric cabling or pipes along the top of skirting board or against architrave (e. g. around a door frame), e. g. for computers or installing central heating, but this is unsightly to look at.
The invention seeks to provide a solution to these problem.
According to a first aspect of the present invention there is provided a skirting board having a main elongate board body having a front face and a rear face, and an elongate projection extending from the top edge of the rear face away from the front face, in use said skirting board being placeable over an existing skirting board with the rear face lying adjacent the front face of the existing skirting board and said elongate projection abutting the wall above the existing skirting board.
Preferably the main elongate body and elongate projection are integrally formed. The skirting board may be machined out of wood.
The front face may include a decorative finish.
According to a second aspect of the present invention there is provided a skirting board or architrave having a main elongate body having a front face and a rear face, and a first elongate projection extending from the top edge of the rear face away from the front face, and a second elongate projection extending from the bottom edge of the rear face away from the front face, in use said skirting board or architrave being placeable against a wall with the first and second elongate projection abutting the wall, and the cavity formed between the projections being useable to receive cable or pipes.
Preferably the main elongate body and elongate projections are integrally formed. The skirting board may be machined out of wood.
The front face may include a decorative finish.
According to a third aspect of the present invention there is provided a trunking kit comprising section of skirting and architrave. and junction blocks with a right angle cavity whereby two length of skirting and/or architrave can be abutted at right angles against a junction block to create a right angled conduit to accommodate cables or pipes.
An embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure I shows a perspective view of a first aspect of the invention,
Figure 2 shows a perspective view of a second aspect of the invention, and
Figure 3 shows a front view of a third aspect of the invention.
Referring to Figure 1 there is shown skirting board I having a main elongate board body 2 having a front face 3 and a rear face 4. An elongate projection 5 extends from the top edge of the rear face 4 away from the front face 3. In use skirting board 1 can be placed over an existing skirting board 6 with the rear face 4 lying adjacent the front face 6A of the existing skirting board, with the elongate projection 5 abutting the wall above the existing skirting board.
The skirting board 1 may be used to cover up existing skirting to avoid having to remove existing skirting. Alternatively laminate flooring can be laid on an existing floor with a small gap between the laminate flooring edge and the existing skirting board 6, and the skirting board 1 placed over the existing skirting, with the bottom edge 7 covering the gap. Aiso if the height of the rear face 4 of skirting board 1 is greater than the height of the front face 6A of the old skirting board 6, a cavity will be created between the projection 5 and the top edge 6B of old skirting board 6 to cover any cables or pipes above old skirting board 6.
The main elongate body 2 and elongate projection 5 are integrally formed. The skirting board is machined out of wood. The front face 3 may include a decorative finish as shown and well know
In the art.
Referring to Figure 2 there is shown a skirting board or architrave 11 having a main elongate body 12 having a front face 13 and a rear face 14. A first elongate projection 15 extends from the top edge of the rear face 14 away from the front face 13, and a second elongate projection 16 extends from the bottom edge of the rear face 14 away from the front face 13. In use the skirting . Y, from the front face 13. In use the skirting board or architrave is placed against a wall with the first and second elongate projections 15, 16 abutting the wall, and the cavity 17 formed between the projections being usable to receive cables or pipes 18A, 18B. The skirting and architrave of Figure 2 can be used instead of standard skirting and architrave.
The main elongate body 12 and elongate projections 15, 16 are integrally formed. The skirting board or architrave is machined out of wood. The front face 13 may include a decorative finish as shown and well know in the art.
Referring now to Figure 3, a trunkmg kit comprises a section of skirting 21 A and architrave 21 B similar to that shown in Figure 2 and a junction block 22 with a right angle cavity 23 whereby skirting 21 A and architrave 21 B can he abutted at right angles against the junction block 22 to create a right angled conduit to accommodate cables or pipes 28A. 28B.
The kit of Figure 3 can be used to route cables and pipes around objects such as door frames 24.
It will be appreciated that a junction block 22 could be provided to join two lengths of architrave 11 B at right angles, e. g. to cover cable or pipe going over the top of the door.
It will be appreciated that the skirting and architrave of the invention could be made in a range of designs each with different cosmetic looks and functions.
Further modifications will be apparent to those skilled in the art without departing from the scope of the present invention.
