Abstract
An electric powered mine clearance vehicle comprises a wheeled body frame and four substantially horizontal elongate arms extending out in front of the vehicle. A first end of each arm is attached to the vehicle by means of a hinge while a second end of each arm, remote from the vehicle, is provided with a pair of pivotally mounted plates. In use as the vehicle moves forward, the arms are moved up and down causing the plates to strike the ground detonating buried land mines. The vehicle may be controlled by a cable which also provides electric power to the vehicle's electric motors. The vehicle may also be provided with a brush cutter that extends beyond the plates, to clear vegetation in the path of the vehicle.
Description
Personnel Mine Destroyer
Fact Sheet
This machine will locate and destroy land mines of all types. It is the only unit that will destroy the all plastic mine. It works by thumping the ground every inch of it in its path. It is very manoevreable and is controlled by a cable from a command post. It is made using strong steel angle bolted together so if damaged can be repaired easily, but due to its skeleton construction it is designed so there is not a lot of resistance to blast. The hammers are well infront of the unit. As the mine explodes at aprox 30* it will blow the hammer up which it is designed to do. The hinge brings the hammer back to its correct position. If it is damaged there is a rope attached to its back, and if it is pulled at the base unit the machine turns on its back on to wheels and then can be pulled back, to be repaired. The advantage of this machine is that the operator is perfectly safe at all times. If vegetation is a problem and a mine might be in there, by fitting the cutter it will clear the young trees and bushes enabling the hammers to come into action.
Claims (6)
1. The machine is designed to find and destroy land mines of all types.
2. The machine as claimed in claim 1 has two 24v low geared motors, a differential gear in the middle of the main drive shaft, with two discs with three rollers on each side
3. The machine as claimed in 1 and 2, has two large spade lug driving wheels at the end of the driving shaft.
4. The machine as claimed in any preceding claim, has four long shafts fitted in front with large double plates that are moveable on the shaft to enable the plates to beat uneven ground.
5. The machine as claimed in any preceding claim, is controlled by a cable, at the command post, that is connected to batteries and by a control unit that will stop the current to each motor to enable the unit to change direction.
The machine as claimed in the preceding claims. When the area is overgrown, by fitting the top cutter, the two motors that are fitted, 1 to control the side to side movement and the other to drive the cutter, the area is then able to be cleared by the hammers.
Amendments to the claims have been filed as follows CLAIMS 1. The machine is an electrically powered mine clearance unit comprising a wheeled body frame and four substantially horizontal elongated arms extending out in front of the vehicle, wherein a first end of each arm is attached to the body frame by means of a hinge while a second end of each arm, remote from the body frame, is provided with a pair of pivotally mounted plates, such that in use as the vehicle moves forward, the arms are moved up and down causing the plates to strike the ground and detonate buried land mines.
2. The electrically powered mine clearance unit as claimed in claim 1, has two 24v low gear motors fitted, one at each end of the shaft. Two large spade lugged driving wheels. A differential gear in the middle. Four double discs, with three rollers in.
3. The electrically powered mine clearance unit as claimed in claims 1 and 2, is controlled by an electric cable to a command post where it is connected to batteries. Where the cable is fitted to the machine, the connections are armour plated.
4. The electrically powered mine clearance unit as in previous claims also has facilities enabling the machine to be returned to the command post should it be damaged. This is by a rope cable attached to the machine, which when pulled the machine turns onto its back where wheels are mounted for its retrieval.
5. The electrically powered mine clearance unit as in previous claims can be fitted with a top cutter to deal with areas which are overgrown with vegetation. It has two motors, one to control the side to side movement and the other to drive the cutter.
6. The electrically powered mine clearance unit as claimed in previous claims has been designed so that it can be easily transported to an area by use of a vehicle similar to that of a Land Rover.
