Abstract

236,167. Atlas-Werke Akt.-Ges. June 28, 1924, [Convention date]. Driving-gear and regulating and control-transmitting gear for winding and paying-out apparatus.-In an electrically-driven ship's anchor winch or capstan provided with a friction clutch between the motor and drum as a safety member one part of the clutch is subject to the action of a disconnecting element, such as a compression spring adjusted to the maximum load while the other part of the clutch is influenced by a weighted or spring lever which enables the disconnecting stress of the friction clutch to be adjusted and also to be removed completely fcr the purpose of testing the releasing power o.' the clutch when working. The drum 5 is driven through worm gearing 4 by a shaft 3 which is coupled by a multiple disc clutch 2 to a shaft 1 driven by the motor. A bell-crank lever 14 having a weight 15, or a spring load, is connected by a driver ring 13 to a sleeve 16 which is connected to a disc 10 bearing against springs 17. Notches 18 in the weight', or lever, are engaged by the end 19 of a lever 20. The lever 14 can be moved into positions a - - d by the lever 20 to vary the load which will release the clutch. A rod 21 pivoted to the lever 20 is provided at its end with a resilient sleeve 22 which engages an aperture 23 in a hand wheel 24 by means of which the controller of the motor starter is actuated. The motor cannot be started until the sleeve 22 is withdrawn from the aperture 23, and in this position of the lever 20 the clutch is unstressed. On turning the wheel 24, the sleeve 22 slides along its underside until it registers with the aperture 23 when it :moves upward and locks the wheel in position for rormal running of the motor. During running the position of the lever 14 can be varied, by means of the lever 20, without unlocking the wheel 24, to ascertain if in position b, e.g. the load will effect the release of the clutch. The shaft 3 is preferably displaceable longitudinally. The end of the shaft 3 is mounted in a ball bearing 28 in a casing 27 which is longitudinally movable in an extension 26 of the casing 25. A compression spring 29 is placed between the casings 25, 27. All the members of the clutch that have a large moment of inertia are connected to the shaft 1.
