Abstract
A Scooter Weather Protector 1 is a retractable device for providing warmth and weather protection to the lower parts of the rider of a scooter type vehicle. The device, which may be attached and stored inside the scooter type vehicle's glovebox, is made of a rain proof fabric on the outside and thermal insulation on the inside. When and as needed the rider of the vehicle can pull the Scooter Weather Protector out of the glovebox and over his lower body to provide warmth and secure it around his waist by way of a fastening 3. When not in use the Scooter Weather Protector can be securely stowed away the locked glovebox of the scooter type vehicle.
Description
2360263 SCOOTER WEATHER PROTECTOR This invention relates to a Scooter
Weather Protector.
There is limited weather protection offered by a scooter type vehicle to the rider of such a vehicle. Add on covers of types are available but tend to be bulky, encasing the scooter / moped and not practical for removal from the vehicle after each journey. They do not offer any theft protection as they are designed to remain on the vehicle for long periods. Existing covers that are available tend to cover large parts of the scooter type vehicle making them intrusive on the original styling and aesthetics of the vehicle. As scooters and mopeds are now somewhat of a fashion accessory, the majority of owners are unwilling to use such an unappealing apparatus and as research has shown, would rather be cold and wet when given the option. These strap on covers also make it very difficult to use the ignition key as it is hidden under the cover, the only way to insert the key is by feeling underneath as the cover is too bulky to pull back.
According to the present invention there is provided a retractable device comprising of a weather proof material designed to protect the lower region of the rider of a scooter type vehicle from the elements. The fabric has an inner layer of insulation and is designed and shaped to provide warmth and weather protection. The fabric extends towards the rear of the vehicle with the intention of covering the rider of the vehicle's legs. There is a strap provided which fastens around the rider's waist. The Scooter Weather Protector also extends downwards providing warmth and weather protection to the rider's legs on the left and right sides. The device has the option of being fixed temporarily simply by placing over the glovebox door of a scooter and closing, or more permanently by way of screws or adhesive options. In either case both applications provide theft protection and the Scooter Weather Protector is able to be stored in the locked glovebox when not in use. There is also the option of leaving the Scooter Weather Protector extended, protecting the internal space of the vehicle from rain when not in use, whilst still securely fixed within the glovebox, providing protection against theft.
A specific embodiment of the mivention will now be described by way of an example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: - Figure 1 shows the assembled Scooter Weather Protector in perspective; Figure 2 shows the Scooter Weather Protector in situ and attached to a scooter type vehicle to demonstrate it's intended application (in perspective); Figure 3 shows (in elevation) the optional fixing to the glovebox of the vehicle whilst the glovebox is open. The Scooter Weather Protector is shown in cross section (Indicated by cross hatching); Figure 4 then shows the next stage when the glovebox is closed and the rider is sitting on the vehicle; Figure 5 shows the unassembled flattened Scooter Weather Protector; Figure 6 shows (in perspective) the Scooter Weather Protector ready to be stowed in the glovebox with the glovebox open.
Referring to the drawing (Fig. 1) the Scooter Weather Protector comprises of a combination of flexible and foldable type of fabrics shaped to provide warmth and weather protection to the rider of the scooter type vehicle. When in position on the vehicle (Fig. 2), the Scooter Weather Protector protects the lower body region of the rider of the vehicle from the elements. The Scooter Weather Protector extends backwards over the rider of the vehicle's legs and lower body region (Fig. 4, No. 1).
The fabric could be of a flexible, foldable or pliable nature such as Nylon, PVC possibly with a fleece lining or feather filled type materials, or other materials with either thermal insulating qualities or water/wind resistant/proof properties.
The Scooter Weather Protector has two flaps at the front; the upper flap (No. 4) can be slipped over the glovebox lid and attached to the inside of the glovebox of the vehicle by way of a temporary or permanentfixing (Figs. 3 and 4) and has a hole in its centre to allow for such things as glovebox locking mechanisms (No. 9) which passes through so as to function as normal. The glovebox of the vehicle is closed to secure the Scooter Weather Protector into position.
The lower flap (No. 10) remains outside and below the glovebox and its purpose is to provide wind protection to the rider and prevent the sides (No. 2) from flapping at speed. This lower flap has provision to be detached on one side (No. 8) to allow easy stowage if Scooter Weather Protector is to be fixed on a permanent basis.
Figure 5 shows the flat shape of the fabric which is joined together at points marked (No. 6) to directly adjacent join marked (No. 6). The same applies to j oins marked (No. 7). No. 8 has a hook and loop fastening to allow the section to be unfastened quickly so that the Scooter Weather Protector may be easily stowed away if permanently fixed to the inside of the glovebox. There is provision for a strap with a fastening (No. 3) which is intended to fit around the waist of the rider. This is shown in Figure 2 as if the rider were in position. Figure 6 shows in perspective the Scooter Weather Protector folded and ready to be stowed into the glovebox of the vehicle.
