The shape includes a waterproof tunnel or "trunk" 14 by which a security chain enters and exits, this being situated at the front of the stitched waterproof shape 13. At the rear of the stitched formed shape of waterproof material 13 there is provided a nylon carrying handle. <IMAGE>

Description

WATERPROOF MOTORCYCLE CRASH HELMET COVER This invention relates to a Waterproof Motorcycle Crash Helmet Cover.
Motorcycle crash helmets are well known and provide protection for riders heads in the event of an accident. Motorcycle crash helmet covers are not common, being only available as a stockingette bag with an opening, closed by a draw-cord made of cotton. Thus this is not waterproof in an event of a steady rain or heavy storm.
According to the present invention there is provided a waterproof motorcycle crash helmet cover comprising a stitched formed waterproof cover with a zip to open and close cover, a waterproof tunnel or "trunk" at the front of the aforementioned cover, to grant access to the motorcycle crash helmet with security chain and padlock or similar device, a waterproof storm flap to cover and provide protection from rain for aforementioned zip and a nylon carrying handle situated to the rear of aforementioned waterproof motorcycle crash helmet cover.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: Figure 1 shows in perspective a modern full face motorcycle crash helmet to which the waterproof motorcycle crash helmet cover seeks to protect.
Figures 2 & 3 show in perspective, the front and rear of the waterproof motorcycle crash helmet cover, unzipped and laid fully open with crash helmet inserted into cover. (Directional arrows show method of insertion with crash helmet being the correct way up); Figures 4 and 5 show in perspective, the front and rear of the waterproof motorcycle crash helmet cover fully zipped together with the stormflap in the open position; Figures 6 and 7 show in perspective, the front and rear of the waterproof motorcycle crash helmet cover, fully zipped together with the stormflap covering the zip, which will be considered as the closed position for the stormflap; Figure 8 shows in perspective, the underside elevation of the circular base, this being also of waterproof material;; Figure 9 illustrates the direction and path of travel of a suitable chain or cable through the waterproof motorcycle crash helmet cover, which can then be padlocked, if so desired, to any part of a motorcycle chassis.
Please note; Figures 10-13 are additional embodiments to the original patent specification.
Figure 10 shows in perspective, the front of the waterproof motorcycle crash helmet cover, containing at the beginning of the tunnel or "trunk", a toggle and cord arrangement in the open position. Closed position not shown.
Figures 11 and 12 show in perspective, the underside and front of the waterproof motorcycle crash helmet cover with the addition of a gusset or strip of material running the full length, from top to bottom, of the waterproof motorcycle crash helmet cover.
Figure 13 shows in perspective, the front of the waterproof motorcycle crash helmet cover, fully zipped together, with the stormflap in the open position, but now containing an inner stormflap in the open position with the zip inbetween.
Referring to the drawing the waterproof motorcycle crash helmet cover comprises two halves of semi circular waterproof material 10 with a stitched in circular base 11 also of waterproof material, the two halves 10 being stitched up to a certain level and thus being secured together by means of a zip 12 which is stitched to both halves of material 10.
Upon and into these two halves of material 10 and at the front of the respective shape of the waterproof motorcycle crash helmet cover 13 there is a tunnel or "trunk" of waterproof material 14 which is stitched into a pre-cut oval at the front of the respective shape of the waterproof motorcycle crash helmet cover 13. Its purpose being to allow a suitable chain or cable to enter and exit the waterproof motorcycle crash helmet cover without undue penetration of said opening from the natural elements.
With this tunnel or "trunk" 14, there is also the possibility of inclusion of an "inner cuff" or wide waterproof elasticated band of material being stitched into and with the pre-cut oval and the rear of said tunnel or "trunk" 14, the purpose being to arrest water trickling and running down inside the tunnel or "trunk" 14 and entering the waterproof motorcycle crash helmet cover. No illustration provided.
The zip 12 which secures the two halves of the waterproof motorcycle crash helmet cover 10 has a strip of waterproof material 15 stitched along its side and secured at the other side by velcrolpads 16, thus providing a storm resistant cover (stormflap) for the zip 12, as shown in Figure 4, the open position and Figure 6, the closed position.
Also upon the two halves of the waterproof material 10, at the rear of the respective shape of the waterproof motorcycle crash helmet cover 13, there is a strip of waterproof nylon webbing 17, cut at certain lengths and stitched at each end to the two halves of the waterproof material 10, thus allowing a human hand to pass through and under the nylon webbing 17 and when lifted becomes the carrying handle, as illustrated in Figures 5 and 7.
Inside the respective shape of the waterproof motorcycle crash helmet cover 13, all stitched seams and joins which make up the waterproof motorcycle helmet cover will be coated or covered with a suitable waterproofing agent thus sealing said seams and joins from water penetration.
As illustrated in Figure 9 the direction and path of travel of a suitable chain or cable through the waterproof motorcycle crash helmet cover is as follows. One end of the chain or cable enters the tunnel or "trunk" 14 of the respective shape of the waterproof motorcycle crash helmet cover 13 and with the full face motorcycle crash helmet in the correct position and the crash helmet visor lifted or partly ajar as shown in Figures 2, 3 and 9, the chain or cable exits the tunnel or "trunk", passes over the helmet chin piece and into the helmet interior. It then exits from the base of the chin piece coming up on the outside of the helmet to thread back into and out of the tunnel or "trunk" 14 from whence it first passed through. With both open ends of the chain or cable seen to be exiting the tunnel or "trunk" 14, they can now be, if so desired, padlocked and secured around any part of a motorcycle chassis.
Referring now to Figures 10-13, a second embodiment of the invention will now be described. Like parts will have the same reference numeral.
Figure 10 shows the addition of a toggle and cord arrangement 18 at the beginning of the tunnel or "trunk"14of the waterproof motorcycle crash helmet cover, who's purpose, when the toggle is released and pulled, is for the cord to envelope and close the waterproof material tightly around the emerging chain or cable from the waterproof motorcycle crash helmet cover, thus eliminating rain from being driven into said tunnel or "trunk"l4.
The emerging chain or cable path of travel is shown in Figure 9.
As illustrated in Figures 11 and 12 the underside and front elevations of the waterproof motorcycle crash helmet cover are shown. These now encompass a gusset or strip 19 of waterproof material that runs from the front of the tunnel or "trunk'j40n the underside of the waterproof motorcycle crash helmet cover, as shown in Figure 11, all the way around to the front upright elevation of the tunnel or "trunk'j4as shown in Figure 12.
This description supersedes the underside elevation of the circular base as shown in Figure 8.
Another detail in the second embodiment is shown in Figure 13, which illustrates the use of an inner stormflap 20 laying adjacent and parallel to the first stormflap 15 with the zip 12 inbetween. This inner stormflap 20 is designed to fold over the zip 12 before the stormflap 15 is folded over both zip 12 and inner stormflap 20 and secured in place by velcro pads 16 to helmet cover. This provides the zip 12 a more reliable waterproof defence against driving rain.
