Abstract

235,642. Prescott, W. E. March 19, 1924. Mixers with circulating- devices; rotary stirrers.-In an apparatus for mixing plastic substances comprising a trough containing parallel sets of beaters of prismatic section rotating in opposite directions without intersection of paths, the beaters are disposed in staggered relation on their shafts and for the major part present a single inclined face to the material, which is forced in a helical course round a partition disposed centrally between the sets of beaters but terminating short of the ends of the troughs. The beaters k, which may have concave working faces k<1>, are mounted on oppositely rotating shafts h, i, and are staggered with relation to both the beaters in the opposite side of the shaft and those on the other shaft. The beaters k<2> at the ends of the trough, opposite the spaces left by the partition e, are arranged with their working faces parallel with the shafts. The trough is provided with a discharge valve l<2> operated by a lever l<3>, and with a water jacket furnished with steam supply b<2> and overflow pipes c.
