Abstract

264,278. Molassine Co., Ltd., and Davis, H. C. Nov. 13, 1925. Steam cooking-apparatas.-In the manufacture of food for dogs and other animals the ingredients are inserted in a dry state through a hopper e into a mixer comprising a stationary jacketed cylinder b provided with a rotary central shaft g carrying stirrers j. Steam or other heating medium is passed into the jacket. One or more ring pipes l are arranged in the cylinder b and are provided with perforations m through which binding material is forced into the cylinder in the form of a fine mist. The binding material, which may consist of flour and water is injected from a supply pipe o by an air jet p. Other devices for introducing the binder may replace the ring pipes l. Low pressure steam preferably superheated to about 220‹ C. is introduced at one or more places to the cylinder through pipes q and passes through the apparatus in the reverse direction to the food material. The stirrers i are shaped to feed the material towards the outlet r the last stirrer j<1> being turned in the reverse direction to prevent the outlet being choked.
