Abstract

A reversible pyramid propagator has a pyramid shaped body 2 constructed of a transparent material. The bottom of the propagator is open and a top portion is missing to allow the fitting of a removable cap 1, constructed in similar material, whose receptacle may be sealed to allow the cap to retain liquid for trapping small predators. Holes are provided near the top of the dome to facilitate ventilation. Means 4 are provided to secure the dome to the ground in either the upright or inverse orientation. In the upright orientation fig 2, the cap may be removed to allow access to the protected plant. In the inverse orientation, fig 3, the cap is removed to allow the dome to be positioned over a small plant. In the inverse orientation the dome protects the outer leaves of the maturing plant from the ground and adjacent plants, whilst also acting as a funnel to guide liquid onto the root area of the plant.

Description

2350273 REVERSIBLE PYRAMID PROPAGATOR This invention relates to a
reversible pyramid propagator.
Propagators are well known for use in promoting and protecting the growth of small seedlings. Their enclosed form helps protect the seedlings from predators and weeds, whilst the transparent material of which they are made allows maximum sunlight to penetrate, thus creating a 'greenhouse' effect.
However, once seedlings have grown to a certain size, the propagators, by design, are no longer able to serve a purpose and are therefore, removed. Propagators are also fairly large and are difficult to move around the garden plot when watering is necessary under the enclosed area.
According to the present invention there is provided a reversible pyramid propagator comprising an opened bottom pyramid shaped dome, with the top removed, constructed in a transparent material, and a removable cube shaped cap, constructed in the same material.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which:- Figure 1 shows in perspective the pyramid propagator positioned in the upright orientation with the cap in position in the top of the pyramid.
Figure 2 illustrates the separation of the cap ftom the pyramid.
Figure 3 shows the pyramid positioned in the inverse orientation with the cap removed.
Referring to the drawing, the propagator comprises a transparent pyramid shaped dome 2 with openings at the top and bottom, and a transparent cap 1.
The cap 1 fits into the hole in the top of the propagator 2 and is prevented ftom sliding into the dome by four flaps bent over at the top of each face of the cap 1.
The cap 1 receptacle is scaled so that it can retain liquid for trapping small predators.
Three holes 3 positioned in a line near the top of each face of the pyramid dome facilitate air ventilation.
The propagator is secured to the ground in either the upright orientation, as illustrated in Fig 1, or the inverse orientation, as illustrated in Fig 3, by, for example, a narrow cane or similar means (not shown), pushed through the holes 4 in the propagator dome 2 flaps.
Additional reversible pyramid propagators may be attached to each other by pushing canes through both sets of holes 4.
2 Removal of the cap 1 gives access to the plant, for example, watering.
With the cap 1 removed, the pyramid 2 can be inverted, as illustrated in Fig 3, over a plant and secured to the ground using small canes pushed through the holes 4 into the ground, allowing the plant to mature to full size.
In the inverse orientation, as illustrated in Fig 3, any liquid collecting on the inner faces of the propagator dome 2 will be guided down through the small hole at the bottom of the dome 2 and around the root of the plant.
In the inverse orientation, as illustrated in Fig 3, the outer leaves of the plant inside the dome 2 are protected from the ground and adjacent plants.

Claims (7)

1 A reversible pyramid propagator comprising an opened bottom pyramid shaped dome, with the top removed, constructed in a transparent material, and a removable cube shaped cap, constructed in the same material.
2 A reversible pyramid propagator as claimed in Claim 1 wherein flaps are provided in the cap to prevent it from falling into the dome floor.
3 A reversible pyramid propagator as claimed in Claim 1 or 2, wherein the cap receptacle is sealed enabling it to retain liquid.
4 A reversible pyramid propagator as claimed in any preceding claim wherein holes are provided to facilitate ventilation.
A reversible pyramid propagator as claimed in any preceding claim wherein means are provided to secure it to the ground in either the upright or inverse orientation.
6 A reversible pyramid propagator as claimed in any preceding claim wherein means are provided to allow the attachment of additional reversible pyramid propagators.
7. A reversible pyramid propagator as claimed in any preceding claim wherein removal of the cap allows access to the protected plant, for example, watering.
8 A reversible pyramid propagator as claimed in any preceding claim wherein in the inverse orientation, the walls of the said propagator guide liquid through the small opening at the narrow end of the dome around the root of the protected plant.
9 A reversible pyramid propagator as claimed in Claim 8 wherein in the inverse orientation, the inner surface of the said propagator walls isolate the outer leaves of a plant protected by the said propagator from the ground and adjacent plants.
A reversible pyramid propagator substantially as described herein with reference to Figures 1-3 of the accompanying drawing.
