Abstract

234,609. Terrett, H. C. April 29, 1924. Track apparatus actuating signals on, and for stopping, trains; wire and like compensators.-In apparatus of the kind in which a transversely movable track ramp member 5 set in conjunction with the usual semaphore signal coacts with a depending train-carried shoe 3 to sound an alarm on the train or apply the brakes when the signal is at danger, and in which lost motion is provided for in the connection between the separating lever and the track device, the member 5 is mounted on a sliding bar 11 with upstanding jaws 15, 16 engaged by the lower end of an arm 14 on a counterweighted lever 12. The weight normally holds the member 5 in the danger position, from which it is moved by chain &c. connection between the lever 12 and the cabin signal lever not shown. The jaw 16 has a curved extension, and arm 14 engages this jaw during the initial portion of its movement, after which the arm 14 moves idly with its end in proximity to the curved portion of the jaw, this arrangement serving as a lock to retain the member 5 in its displaced position. The member 3 as described is raised vertically by the ramp 5, its upper end raising a valve supplying steam to a whistle, and in another form raising two valves, one controlling an alarm and the other the brakes. Member 3 is retained raised by a pawl engaging ratchet teeth.
