Coiling; making metal fabrics.-A machine for winding wire in the form of the figure 8 on two pins, as in preparing filaments for mounting in electric lamps, comprises a shaft 13 on which a yoke 16 carrying the said two pins 17, 18 is removably mounted, means for oscillating this shaft through more than 180‹, a lever 21 carrying at its free end a holder for a reel of wire 24, means for rocking this lever to pass the wire over the ends of the pins 17, 18, and means for feeding the shaft 13 longitudinally to enable the coil to growalong the pins. The shaft 13 is oscillated by a toothed segment 9 rocked by means of an eccentric 7 geared to a main shaft 3. a cam 20 on which rocks the winding lever 21. A spring presses the winding shaft against the edge of a spiral disc 39, which is frictionally connected to a worm-wheel 37 driven by a worm 36 geared to the shaft 3, so that the shaft 13 travels longitudinally. Electric contacts 51, 52 form parts of a switch rotating with the worm-wheel 37 and serve to stop the electric motor driving the machine when winding is completed. An electric current may be caused to traverse the wire between the reel 24 and the pins 17, 18 to operate a relay for stopping the motor if the wire should break. The yoke 16 may be provided with pins 17, 18 on both faces, so as to carry two coils.
