Abstract
233,785. Elliott, H. Feb. 15, 1924. Suspended vehicles.-Apparatus particularly suitable for loading and unloading ships or shelves comprises a carrier or cradle c consisting of a series of hinged sections, which is raised and lowered in parallel loops of hoisting ropes a wound on drums b, and runs by gravity down an inclined ropeway a<1> forming an extension of the hoisting ropes. The cradle may be provided with wheels k, Fig. 8, for running automatically on to rails or on the ground at the lower end of the ropeway. The apparatus may be used for transporting simply the cradle being raised in the loop sufficiently to run by gravity. As shown in Fig. 3 the cradle is formed of a number of sections d connected by hinges at e. Each section d is provided with rollers &c. d' arranged in semicircular channels d' and running on the ropes a. The lower end of the inclined ropeway is supported by arms i on standards h, Fig. 8, the arms entering recesses in the cradle and guiding the cradle on to the fixed rails.
